1961 DeSoto

DeSoto (1961)
for sale

Price: US $25,500.00

Description:

Up for sale is a very rare 1961 Desoto in fantastic original condition. It's been garaged its entire life, and has no rust anywhere. The previous owner drove the car just over 1000 miles in the past 25 years. He had it re-painted around 91 in its original colors - Mediterranean Blue with a Glacier White top, and the paint is still nice and shiny. Car has been regularly maintained, and has no leaks, smoke, or rattles.
The upholstery, carpet, headliner, etc are original, as well as the chrome and stainless. There is a lot of stuff that goes with the car, including an NOS upholstery kit, purchased years ago and still in perfect condition. Of course, right now, it doesn't need to be changed, but it's there if you ever want it. Also, there's a bunch of new gaskets, literature, and a brand new fuel sending unit. I would've had it replaced, but I couldn't find anyone that even knew where the old one was (It's under the back seat, but if they don't know, I don't trust them to work on it!)
Interesting piece of history - The day this particular car rolled off the assembly line was the day Chrysler announced they would not be making any more Desotos. This was the 11th 4-door hardtop made on November 18th, 1960. On that day,
Dealers were notified by telegram:
Chrysler Corporation is discontinuing production of the 1961 DeSoto. Your factory dealer council has been informed of the decision. Sound business judgement dictates concentrating selling effort in the low priced segment of the market where volume potential has been steadily improving. With two highly acceptable entries, Plymouth and Valiant, your profit and volume forecast is excellent. Public reception of these fine cars has been gratifying and confirms that another high volume year is ahead for all of us. Letter Follows.

Now for the good part! - This car runs PERFECTLY. Very quiet and smooth. Flies down the freeway at 70-80 MPH effortlessly. Power brakes and steering are perfect, and the gauges, radio, turn signals, lights, power front seat, all work. The parking brake holds very well too. The only thing not working is the fuel gauge, but like I mentioned, a brand new sending unit comes with the car. As the picture indicates, the dash has a crack in it. What you can't see in the pics is some of the pot metal chrome has very light pitting - remember, it's all original, and still shines, but it's not perfect. It has the original trunk siding as well as the original jack and instructions. Glass is all good and windows roll up and down easily.
Buy with confidence, this is an ultra-rare Desoto - only 2023 4-door hardtops were made for the 1961 model year. Very few remain on the road today. It is currently registered and insured in my name.
I can help with shipping arrangements, but of course the shipping costs are the buyer's responsibility. If you have any questions - please feel free to call anytime between 8am and 11pm PST - Dave - 702-292-1201 --- Also, I do not need help selling my car, so please don't contact me.
Thanks for looking!
