Description:

A very good friend, from 1964, bought this Meteor in the early 90's from a lady who's mother had bought the car new. It spent it's entire life in California, first in the Bay Area, then in the mountains up North. He had the critter upholstered by a mutual friend in San Mateo back in '94, and it has held up very well. The upholsterer added a new, hand made, padded dash, and I have to say, I have never seen one that looks better. The entire dash is in very good shape, with very little deterioration. The gauges all work fine, and the AM radio works just like it should. I was tasked with painting the car back in '93, and it has held up well. It does have some spots where it has reacted to the original lead work and primer, but they are barely noticeable. I used Dupont Centari at that time. The car was originally Champagne, a very blah color, with a brown roof. I had the car ready to paint, and had ordered the color by the body tag. Damn, the paint store messed up and sent me Jamaica Yellow. To late to change, so I went ahead with the Yellow. My buddy gave me a hard time for years, but had told his wife that he actually liked it better than the original. It is still very presentable, as is the upholstery. The car runs great, and sounds great. I don't know if it's ever been rebuilt, and it certainly doesn't need it now. The power steering works fine, and the brakes are all new. The wheel cylinders had gone bad from sitting, and rather than mess with them, I bought a full brake kit from Kanters and had it installed.
The tires were new, about 15 years ago, so should be replaced, even though they show no wear. I would not trust them at speed for any long distance. The chrome wheels still look good, but 2 of the hubcaps decided to go their own way on the way home from the brake shop. I have not replaced them or the tires, as I know everyone has their own ideas on what looks good, so I am taking that into consideration when selling.
My pal passed away last year, and I ended up with the Meteor. Problem is, I have too many projects, and am too old to maintain them all. Also, it's difficult to deal with the notion that this was Chuck's car. Seems silly, but wait 'till you get older, and carry around your emotions on your sleeve. .. Emotions and sentimentality weigh heavy. ..
For those who don't know, the Meteor was only produced for three years, '61 to '63. It is Fairlane sized, so has plenty of room inside. They ride much better than Fairlane's, due to some suspension differences.
So here it is. .. I have chosen a NO RESERVE auction, so you know that I'm serious about selling, and that's why the higher starting price.
Any questions, feel free to call, text, email, come and see it yourself, whatever catches your fancy!! Bruce (208) 695-3956
