1978 Jeep Cherokee Chief
1978 Jeep CherokeeChief Wide Trac Levi package project vehicle. 360 V8 4bbl TH400 transmission and quadra trac all time 4 wheel drive transfer case. VIN number indicates it was an original 401 cid as it is a z code. I bought this to restore but have another project. I hauled it home and didn't do anything to it until getting it ready for sale. This is what I was told from the previous owner. He bought it in Colorado from a rancher. He said it was used exclusively on the ranch and that the odometer is original miles. Work done on the motor included valve job mic the heads, clean block, cam bearings, freeze plugs, hone block, clean pistons, replace one connecting rod, press 2 rods, drill broken bolts in exhaust manifold, and assemble. The motor has less than 1000 miles with that work on it. I recently got it fired up. The diaphragm must be out of the fuel pump so it will only run 20 seconds or so due to gravity feeding the carb. It does run and sounds good. I was told the front seal is out of the transmission. There is a hole in the passenger floor, all the fender flares look like they need or have had work, the grill is not from that model and year, there is no headliner, no radio, seats are ripped, the back window is off track and needs clips. When I got it 3 of the tires were flat on after market rims. I put 6 lug factory chrome rims on with tires that hold air. Battery does not come with it. I cleaned out the interior and cleaned off the exterior. The Jeep has factory air conditioning and cruise control set up.
