Description:

Offered for sale AT NO RESERVE
is a sunny Southern California rust free survivor 1979 Scout Rallye. Documents included with sale are the original manuals, shop manuals and a couple of unique “Scout” publications. Loaded with every option including A/C, tilt, cruise, AM/FM, clock and Auto-Loc hubs this Scout is truly a unique find!
I purchased the Scout a year or so ago from a gentlemen in Los Angeles. The Scout was tucked away in the garage where it had sat unused for a couple of years. He had purchased it years earlier from a family friend that used the Scout sparingly for years on the family ranch.
The Scout is a lifelong California vehicle and as a result is rust free and very well preserved! The perfect rig for weekend adventures, Saturday coffee or the occasional car show! I get thumbs up and lots of attention whenever I take the Scout out.
Survivor, Barn Find and time capsule are terms that are used over and over here on EBAY often times on less than deserving rigs. This Scout is the real deal. It is amazingly clean and original for a vehicle of this age. Over the last 25 years my hobby of collecting and restoring muscle cars has expanded to vintage 4x4s. It is getting increasingly difficult to find unmolested, original 4x4s that have not been abused. When I see something unique, well cared for and original I buy and enjoy it! That is exactly how this Scout ended up in my collection. Unfortunately from time to time I have to downsize the herd and that time is now. Some lucky EBAYER is going to end up with a really nice Scout!
Exterior: Mostly original paint with good shine that really pops. Normal scratches and chips from use. The only areas showing any sign of repaint are the front of the driver’s side fender and the stripes on the hood. Straight, accident free and rust free as shown in pics! Unlike most of the Scouts screaming rust free in all caps in Ebay ads, this one actually is. Sunny Southern California since new, and never exposed to foul weather or salty roads. Decals are cracked from age as shown, but they are available if you wanted to replace them. I'd leave it, as it adds to the survivor mystique. Glass is all original including windshield and is in good condition. Wheels are original Rallye style and all 5, including spare, are in nice shape. Tires are BFG All Terrain with good tread.
Interior: All original and in excellent condition. Really fresh and seems new when you climb into the vehicle. I haven't seen an interior this clean in many, many years. Really nice, and none of the typical moisture damage or pitting. No rodent damage or smells. All gauges except temp gauge and fuel gauge are working, all lights are working, and aftermarket AM/FM works and sounds great! Not working are the cruise, A/C, horn, clock and heater blower motor. All stock save for previously mentioned AM/FM/CD. Tilt wheel is tight and not sloppy. Pretty much perfect save a very small tear in the carpet on the passenger’s floorboard, minor curling on the back edge of both door panels, and a couple scrapes in the headliner. Really, super, super nice.
Mechanical: Very good mechanical condition. This truck was never abused, 4-wheeled, or mudded. Very well maintained its entire life and after a long term slumber the Scout received the following work:
1) Radiator removed, rebuilt and reinstalled
2) All new bushings on rear springs
3) New carburetor (original included)
4) New muffler and catalytic converter
5) Transmission serviced and bad/old seals replaced
6) New plugs and wires
7) All fluids replaced.
8) New valve cover gaskets
9) Front wheel seals replaced
10) Steering coupler repaired
The Scout is very original with only a few minor modifications. A tastefully done suspension lift (1.5”-2”), an aftermarket carb. and an aftermarket muffler. The 345 V8 is strong and starts, runs, and drives out well. Previous owner stated it had been rebuilt. Trans shifts well and 4x4 works great. Unlike most old 4x4s the Scout has only one minor drip - nothing major. I've been driving it and it really is smooth, tight, and nice. If I were keeping the rig next order of business would be an alignment.
If you are in the market for a Scout this is one to be considered. A Rallye Scout is the one to have! Finding one in original condition and as highly optioned as this Scout does not happen everyday! I have only seen one other Rallye Scout as original and nice as this one and that was my buddy's which sold here on Ebay a couple of years ago. Don’t let this one slip away!

* **Remember, this is an old vehicle, and even though there are no known issues, stuff happens with old rigs. If you haven't fooled with old vehicles before, adjust your expectations accordingly. Thanks and good luck!
