Vehicle is a 1996 Cushman Truckster. Vehicle is street legal. It registered as a motorcycle in WA (but did not require a helmet endorsement), and registered as a truck in MT. Top speed is 35-40 mph. This is one of the more desirable 2-cylinder air-cooled models. It runs great and the engine is in great shape. I used it to pull 1000 lbs regularly, though the drum-style breaks make this a dangerous amount of weight for going down steep grades (you should expect no problems downhill with not too much weight).
I used this as an ice cream truck last summer. I purchased for $4450, and put about $1000 worth of DIY work into the body, plus a tuneup. From a distance the body looks great, though from up close you can see where I didn't go a great job of grinding all the old paint off. You can simply re-grind the paint down to the bare metal, and you'll see the body is in great shape -- all the rust and pitting that was present when I bought the vehicle was limited to the paint, not the actual body (see photos). You'll also see the outline of the seat belt on the bench seat where the spray paint seeped in -- whoops!
Apart from the funky paint job, there is an electrical short that causes the tail lights and blinkers to cut out intermittently. The locks on the windows don't work, but it's a simple fix. Otherwise there are no known problems.
I am the third owner. First owner was Oregon state college; their maintenance crew took great care of the vehicle. Second owner was a private reseller (no vehicle usage).
I do have the rear side-panel door, but took it off for use, and did not refurbish it. Can include the door if you want it, or can toss it.
This is a unique vehicle that will be the perfect fit for the right person: certain colleges, grounds crews, small food businesses -- consider this a low-cost vehicle for your organization's daily labor needs.
