Walk-around video of this AMX with the motor running: here
Extremely Rare 1972 Javelin original 401c.i. AMX 4 speed with A/C. All original. This is a top tier Muscle car and one of the rarest muscle cars ever made. Only 825 Javelin AMXs were made in 1972 with the largest AMC engine, the 401c.i. with 430ft lbs of torque, and only a handful had 4 speeds. Estimates are 20-25 4 speeds built in 1972. Add Classic Black paint and air conditioning and you have one of the rarest of the rare.
Amazing condition, runs fantastic, everything works, A/C is nice and cold, clock works, all gauges work, all lights work, drive anywhere. Starts right up, no smoke, no noises, no leaks etc. Car has never been restored and doesn't need to be. Very compete car with all the impossible to find parts still there and in excellent condition. Very rare to find one like this.
This is one of the most beautifully styled cars ever. At car shows, many people gather around it and are amazed at this car. You just never see these at all. You won't ever see one again in this condition. The time to buy one is when you see it.

Wheels: Original AMC Machine wheels that came from the factory on this car. Wheels are super rare and were only used on AMXs in 1971 and early 1972. This car is a early car being built in October of 1971. These wheels alone are worth thousands of dollars. They are in excellent condition. Correctly repainted with a 5 step process and still has the original pressed on trim rings (trim rings were carefully removed and front of wheels were sandblasted and repainted. Rear side of wheels are still original paint-see link photos). Tires are almost new B.F. Goodrich Radial T/As. 235/60-15 front, 255/60-15 rear.
Complete owner history: I have talked to the original owner who special ordered this car new from the dealer. She loved fast cars and wanted the best out there. She ordered this car the way she wanted it, stealth in black, and faster then the more common muscle cars. She ordered most all of the Go-Pac options a la cart to have it optioned the way she wanted it. The car cost $5, 000 new in 1971. She sold it in 1988. There have been only 3 other owners. Here is a quote from when I talked to the Original Owner (she bought the car new when she was 27 years old, traded in her 1971 Javelin on it. I have all paperwork and sales contract): I purchased her from a dealer called State American in Schenectady NY in 1971-special order and thought it would never get here. The day that I drove it home two guys on I-87 in a Grand Torino thought they could go faster but I showed them who had the faster car--really loved that car.
Full Original paperwork (not reproduction): Window Sticker, sales purchase contract, owners manual, warranty card with original owners name, warranty sticker, keys in key bag, dealer service receipts, receipt of deposit for sale to second owner. Includes Factory Technical Service Manual on CD that I have purchased.
Body: Very nice and straight body. Solid car, trunk, frame, floors. See photo link for lots of under body and detail photos. Bumpers have been re-chromed, all trim is excellent. The rear bumper blackout treatment is not paint, it is the factory correct decal.
Paint: Beautiful original color Classic Black paint, very shiny, only a couple of small chips. Paint is not new, I think its 10-15 years old but looks new, no bubbles or issues. Looks great and has a nice clear coat over it. Show and go quality, 8 out of 10.
Interior: Mint condition, all original with only new carpet added. Black Corduroy seats in mint condition. Dash is perfect with no cracks at all. Dash panel, door panels, console, are all mint. All gauges work, including the clock, all windows work, headliner is great.
Motor: Original numbers matching 401c.i. was rebuilt in 1981 by Ed Kopper (who was crew chief for funny car driver Bob Newberry). In 2013 the motor was refreshed with new rings, bearings, cam, lifters, valve springs, timing set, at 47, 872 miles (2, 000 miles ago). I have all receipts. Looks to still be a standard bore, original piston 401. New heater core, original radiator was serviced. Car runs cool even in hot weather.
Transmission: Original Borg-Warner Super T-10 close ratio 4 speed. Works perfect. New clutch in 2013 at 47, 872 miles. Rear 3.15 gear the perfect gear with the close ratio 4 speed.
Suspension: Rebuilt front suspension, all new brakes, rotors, drums, master cylinder, all brake tubing.
Included in this sale is the box of the Original Owner's 8 track tapes. The tape player works perfectly and is great to show to the young kids. Most of them don't understand how music can be on tape inside a plastic box, and why sometimes a song is interrupted by the player changing gears (tracks). Of course, the older people all have great memories of 8 track players.
If this were a 4 speed, A/C Big block Camaro, Cuda, Challenger, GTO, 442, Mustang, etc., it would sell for $80, 000+. This is a great bargain for a top of the line Muscle Car, and will only appreciate as more people find out about these super-rare Muscle Cars.
You never see these cars in this condition. It looks fantastic. Very clean. This AMX is ready to show, cruise, drive, and enjoy as is. Be ready for lots of attention.
I have a clear California Title in hand.
Please do not ask the reserve. This is a world-wide auction.
