This Elan is a great drivers car.Despite being the only front wheel drive vehicle ever produced by Lotus, the handling is every bit as responsive as one would expect from a Lotus.There's plenty of information available on these cars with a simple search of the internet. They were extremely limited in the US and are commonly held as one of the best handling FWD vehicles to this day.
I've owned this car for a little over a year and a half now and always garaged it.This is the only M100 Elan known to be in the US with the fully accented interior. (Red striping on door cards and seat as well as red carpeting)Maintenance tends to be relatively easy for a decent home mechanic and parts are readily available. This car has aftermarket AVO fully adjustable shocks, aftermarket/upgraded front anti-roll bar joints, a replacement muffler, braided steel brake lines, new convertible top and a JVC CD player. Other than that, it's a stock vehicle. Convertible top was replaced just before I purchased the car and is in very nice shape with only a minor scuff on the rear vinyl.Both window motors engage well.Both headlight motors have been recently rebuilt and operate perfectly.Wheels are original, manufactured by OZ specifically for this vehicle, and have a few scuffs and residue from stick on wheel weights, but present well.Tires have plenty of life left (estimate 65% usable life)The car has a fresh oil change and coolant and brake fluid flush 3 months ago. All hoses and belts are in excellent condition.AC is ice cold.I have the original parts catalog and service technicians manual as well as an indoor car cover that a go with the car. I also have a binder full of clipped magazine articles from the release of the Elan as well as an original sales brochure.
This car is absolutely reliable and I wouldn't hesitate to drive it 500 miles. In fact, I have, without a problem. I'm also willing to meet a buyer within a reasonable distance with a small deposit.
There are a few small clear coat problem areas and rock chips around the bottom runners and bumper, but this car stands out and looks great with a little elbow grease and proper wash/wax.This is definitely not a show car, but it's a fantastic driver that looks nice, gets attention and is an absolute blast to drive.
