'68 Pymouth GTX HEMI 4spd
Offered here is a 1968 Plymouth GTX HEMI 4-speed, an excellent example of its kind. Under the care and ownership of the same man for more than a decade, this driven show car is in Excellent Plus condition. Showing only slight wear inside and out, most from years of show display and detailing. She was last judged at Mopars at the Strip in 2014, winning best of its class. The car has only improved in OE detail and condition since then including a complete drivetrain rebuilt and OE correction of the engine assembly.
She is a genuine J code Hemi GTX, factory born with a 4spd transmission. All of her original body numbers are intact, radiator support, original fender tag, dash tag, and trunk rail. There is no doubt this car is a genuine HEMI GTX.
While, as is commonly found, the HEMI short block isn't the one that the car was born with. That said it is fully balanced and blueprinted and all the engine assembly components are casting and date code correct, right down to the carburetors and distributor. Pains were taken to restore the car with OE parts. About the only items that are reproduction on this car are the wiring harnesses and the center console. That said, you aren't looking at this car go chase plastic trophies on the golf course green. This is a car is best appreciated as it was built to be, driven and shown.
In addition to being unquestionably rare, in excellent condition, and substantially original, this GTX also has a solid pedigree, owned for the last ten years by Mopar club judge, restored by Restorations by Julius, and independently judged Best in Class 2014 at Mopars at the Strip in Vegas.
If are you looking for a real deal HEMI B-Body that you can reliably drive and enjoy without with worry of diminishing its value, then this GTX is the car you've been hunting for.

Exterior Description The current owner acquired this 1968 Plymouth GTX over ten years ago and has completely restored it over that time. The car was a solid, rust free example to begin with. The entire car was repainted in 2006 and while is does have nearly 3, 000 road miles on it, she still shows excellently. Close inspection will yield a few detectible touch-ups commensurate with road use. During the restoration, the owner found and replaced all the incorrect items that were evident. He almost invariably used 1968 OEM parts and new OEM bolt and fastener kits. The GTX center is NOS, the grill and rear finish panel are restored OEM units that are used as a guide for restoring all the '68 GTX grilles that he has restored for others.
Interior Description When the car was repainted, it was also the opportune time to restore the interior. The factory two tone green bucket seat interior was located and installed, swapping out for the black Roadrunner interior a previous owner swapped in earlier in the car's life. All the trim and high touch surfaces are in outstanding condition, gleaming and crisp. Gauges and switch gear were also restored to factory new condition.
To provide reliable tunes for the open road, the radio selected was an AM/FM from Vintage Auto Radio backed by dual modern speakers. The owner has the original AM radio and re-coned single speaker. Both are included in the sale and the owner either install the original setup or send them along to the new owner. Radio aside, the only reproduction parts used in the interior were the console and console wiring harness.
Engine Bay Description The engine compartment was last OE detailed in 2008, the engine itself received a complete engine rebuild by Julius Steuer in 2014, spec'd around the Engel .570 cam. A balance card is included with the car. The non-original '69 date coded vintage block was leaking from an old weld repair. So, they elected to employ a fully jacketed 426 HEMI World block to replace it. The intake manifold and air cleaner are all OEM and the carbs are date-coded OEM Carter AFB's, restored by Dick Katter. The OEM correct 1968 Prestolite dual-point unit, fitted with a hidden Pertronix electronic ignition inside. The original points distributor parts come with the car.
The 69 Date Coded A833 HEMI Spec transmission was rebuilt by Hemi George, a nationally respected builder. Yes, the car was built in October of 1967 and should have an Inland shifter, but they are so sloppy that the owner instead used a restored Hurst shifter that would have come with the car starting 1/1/1968.
Chassis Description The undercarriage and suspension was initially restored in 2006 along with the rest of the car. Frame connectors from its racing days are still welded in so thoroughly that removing them would have ruined the original rear torque boxes and possibly the rear frame extensions, so they were left in. The benefit is an even more stable ride and chassis stiffness on a platform already famous for it.
Re-restoration of the rear suspension was completed in 2009, reuniting the car with a Dana 60 rear-end as was specified on the factory fender tag. Swapping the incorrect 8 ¾ Sure-grip out for a date-coded 3.54:1 Dana 60 also meant a new drive-shaft so the rear-end would be swaged as it was from the factory. A reproduction stock-style exhaust from Accurate Exhaust with high-flow mufflers were also installed.
