This is a very solid, all original, never cut, modified or restored 1950 Mercury 2d coupe.
Owned by the same gentleman in California from 1971 til just recently. The car has always been taken care of, and been garaged inside.
It has a smooth running 8BA flathead V8, and a 3 spd manuel transmission.
It was repainted in the 1980's and got a red metallic paint job instead of the original black color it came with from the factory.
The paint job is not of top quality. The rubber gaskets around the front and rear window has partially been painted over. There is orange peel, and some faded areas. It is still representable, but far from perfect.
The interior has been re done many years ago in black naugahyde. It's pretty plain, but still soft and not worn out or ripped. Just as the paint job, it's representable. The headliner is there as well as the visors.
The body of the Mercury is solid. There is no signs of damage, old repairs, rust or bondo. The door gaps are good, the doors open and close very well, windows rolls up and down easily. The trunk lid and hood opens and close with ease. The under carriage is very nice, no evidence of rust in any floor pans or rocker panels what so ever, nor has it been repaired. However, the trunk floor has rust issues that needs to be adressed.
All glass is there, but most of the windows is showing some age, and the passenger side quarter window is cracked.
The chrome is decent, with some minor dings on the bumpers and on some sidetrim. It is all complete and not too messed up at all. Everything on this car could be restored and used again.
It runs really good and smooth. Idles perfect. The car really has not been driven much the past 30 years and should preferrably be gone through before starting driving it frequently. The brakes work good as does the clutch and transmission.
The lights, and blinkers work. The gauges work, as well as the blower and wipers.
