Beautiful 1953 Nash Statesman. Just over 30, 000 original miles. This was in the Chet Krause collection. Chet was a collector book publisher in Iola, Wisconsin. He had a pretty sizable car collection up and through the late 90s. According to Nash Club members, this car was originally sold to a woman in Hagerstown, MD. It was originally dark blue, but the woman wanted a black car, so the dealer had it painted black. If you look underneath the car, you can still see the dark blue paint. The car was driven very little, and then ended up in Chet's collection, where it apparently was driven very little. This Nash came with a GM Hydra-Matic transmission, which of course was pretty fancy for the day. You can see the original Hydra-Matic instruction card on the sun visor on the driver's side. Pretty amazing that it's lasted all of these years. This Nash has the standard flathead six. The starter is engaged by pulling back on the shift lever, which is pretty cool. The seats fold back into a bed, which is the genesis for the old joke that a father would never let his daughter date a kid with a Nash. All of the gauges and lights work. The gas filler is behind the right tail light, just like the '54 Cadillacs. Everything is in very good condition, with the exception of the driver's side of the front seat, which you can see has some tears in it. The remainder of the interior is in near-perfect condition, from the door panels to the headliner. The dashboard is magnificent. The paint is in very nice shape, especially considering that it is over 60 years old. The car starts, runs, drives and stops as it should. The lights and signals work. It doesn't smoke. Comes with the original owner's manual. Clear title in my name. Just a really great old Bathtub Nash that needs a new loving home.
