THIS IS A LOCALLY OWNED SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA 1955 OLDSMOBILE 88. IT WAS GARAGED DURING MOST OF ITS LIFE AND WAS WELL MAINTAINED!
UNTIL RECENTLY, THIS OLDSMOBILE WAS USED AS A DAILY DRIVER. HAD THE GENTLEMAN OWNER NOT TAKEN ILL, THIS OLDS WOULD NOT BE ON THE MARKET!
THIS 1955 OLDSMOBILE IS A LOT OF CAR FOR THE MONEY. IT IS THE PERFECT CAR FOR SOMEONE WHO WANTS A NICE VINTAGE CAR THEY CAN DRIVE.
WHILE THIS OLDS IS NOT A TRAILER QUEEN, IT IS VERY PRESENTABLE. IT IS MOSTLY ALL ORIGINAL WITH NEEDED WORK HAVING BEEN DONE THROUGH THE YEARS. FOR EXAMPLE, THE CAR HAS HAD ONE ORIGINAL-COLOR REPAINT, SOME CHROME WAS REDONE, AND THE UPHOLSTERY AND POSSIBLY THE HEADLINER ALSO REDONE AT SOME TIME. ALSO, AT SOME TIME A NEW SET OF 7.50 15 GENERAL DUAL-90 WIDE WHITE WALL TIRES WAS INSTALLED. THEY HAVE SO LITTLE WEAR THAT THEY STILL SHOW THE NUBS ON THE TREAD.
THE ODOMETER ON THIS BEAUTIFUL OLDS SHOWS 79, 131 AND THIS IS BELIEVED TO BE THE TOTAL MILES ON THIS VEHICLE.

THIS OLDS 88 LOOKS GREAT IN ITS TWO-TONE PAINT, DELUXE HUB CAPS, BACK UP LIGHTS AND WIDE WHITE WALL TIRES. THE PAINT IS IN GOOD CONDITION AND HAS A GOOD SHINE. THE TIRES ARE 7.50 15 GENERAL DUAL-90 WIDE WHITE WALLS.
INTERIOR
THE INTERIOR IS VERY PRESENTABLE AND ALL THE GAUGES FUNCTION PROPERLY.
MECHANICALS

THIS 1955 OLDSMOBILE 88 IS POWERED BY ITS 324 CU IN V-8 ENGINE THAT DELIVERS 202 HP @ 4, 000 RPM AND 320 LB.-FT. OF TORQUE @ 2, 000 RPM, AND HYDRA-MATIC AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION.
THIS 88 ALSO HAS POWER STEERING AND POWER BRAKES. IT HAS PLENTY OF POWER AND APPEARS TO BE IN EXCELLENT MECHANICAL CONDITION!

ENGINE COMPARTMENT
THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT IS VERY CLEAN. UNLIKE CARS BEING SOLD BY DEALERS, NO ONE HAS SPRAYED SHINY STUFF ANYWHERE TO MAKE IT LOOK PRETTY.

Vehicle Condition:
THIS 1955 OLDSMOBILE IS A CALIFORNIA CAR THAT HAS BEEN WELL CARED FOR THROUGH THE YEARS.

ALL THE MECHANICALS AND GAUGES OPERATE PROPERLY.

It is often very difficult to describe every detail of the condition of an unrestored vehicle. This 1955 Oldsmobile is 62 years old and naturally shows some signs of age. I can’t list every single little thing, but I’ll try to give you a clear picture of the overall condition. While the repaint is older, it still has a very good shine. Of course, there are some small chip color-matching touch-ups that have been done through the years. The chrome may or may not have been re-chromed at some time. There are some places that have pealed and those places have been touched up with silver “chrome” paint. There is a small dimple indentation to the rear bumper on the passenger side and there are indentations caused by the rear bumper below the back-up lights. The gaps between the front bumper ends and the body is more than it should be. There is a small area at the lower rear of the right front fender where there is bubbling under the paint. The back of the hood on the passenger side is slightly raised when the hood is closed, but I think this is just an adjustment. Looking down the sides of the car, the body looks straight with no obvious signs of any body repair that I can see. Overall the exterior gives a very presentable impression.
The interior gives the appearance of a well maintained original interior. The dash pad and the headliner appear near new. There is a 7” opening to the seam on the driver’s side seat back that can easily be repaired by any auto upholstery shop, and the cloth portion of the driver’s side front seat upholstery could use a cleaning. The remaining upholstery is nice. The interior painted surfaces show some age, especially on the driver’s door and the top of the glove box. As is often the case in cars of this age, the radio comes on but does not play.
The radios can almost always be brought back with a vibrator and rectifier tube.
There is another radio in the trunk, but I have no idea if that one works. There is no drive belt on the A/C compressor. I do not know if the A/C will work after the belt is replaced. The carpet has seen better days and does have a small bare spot just in front of the heal pad, and the driver side kick panel is pealing.
Bottom line is that this is a very nice California Black-Plate Olds 88 with no known mechanical issues.
