Here is my 1955 Studebaker street rod pickup. This was built to be a great cruiser, modern handling, modern drivetrain, something to get in and drive 500 miles without one bit of trouble.
This was built a few years ago, basically a frame off restoration type build. Like I mentioned earlier it was built with comfort, dependability. and ease of finding parts in mind. So it has a modern front clip and a modern rearend. Which means modern brakes, it takes corners just like a new car, you don't get the violent suspension bangs going over big bumps, etc. The rearend has middle gears so its enjoyable to drive around town and will do highway cruising all day long.
Most guys install small block v8 chevrolets in a street rod. They are great motors, easy to get horsepower out of, parts are cheap, etc however the biggest downfall is fitting them in your vehicle, then once they are installed is getting in there with wrenches to do this or that. Ever tried to change exhaust manifold gaskets on a 40 ford with a small block ? How about changing a water pump ? Trust me you will cuss and have bruised knuckles and spend all day doing it. This pickup has a V6 from a newer camaro. Why a v6 from a newer camaro, well they sound like a v8, they have lots of horsepower especially in classic vehicles like this which were originally pushed around with 100 hp v8's, inline 6's, etc. They get great gas mileage, parts are easy to find, and unlike the small block chevrolet v8 there is alot more room to do wrenching. It is backed up by a turbo 350 automatic.
Getting around to the interior, again built with long road trip comfort in mind. Modern bucket seats, which fit amazingly well. Alot of older pickups you basically gotta be 5' 6 and 150 pounds soaking wet or you simply don't fit. Not the case with this pickup, there is alot of room in that cab. The dash has modern gauges and the pickup wiring is new as well. Steers nice and drives like a charm. You know what else is really amazing, is studebakers design on the dash gauges/wiring. Have you ever had a gauge quit working, a dash light burn out, and you had to crawl underneath that dash and attempt at getting your fingers up in there to fix it ? That's a horrible experience, studebaker designed access to all the dash wiring and gauges from under the hood ! Is that cool or what !
This is a very striking color and the interior really complements it nicely. Its really fun to take this to car shows. Some people have never seen one before and think that I spent big bucks customizing a ford, chevy, dodge, etc. Or they ask if it is a factory show car. I get trophies and stares everywhere I go.
This pickup was built a few years ago. It is really nice, however whenever you drive a vehicle you get a mark here or there or somebody's wife bumps it with their purse at a rod run. So again its really nice, but it isn't perfect.
Ebay made me list a model, I'm not a expert on studebaker pickups. I think this is a 2RE5 or 2R5, but I'm not positive.
I'm losing some storage and something has to go. I really hate selling this, but I don't have a choice. My buy it now is a deal. It would cost at least twice my buy it now price to build this pickup today.
If you need help with shipping just ask me. I deal with trucking companies for work, so to find someone to haul this to you isn't a problem.
I would accept cash when you pick it up or a bank wire transfer. I will expect to be paid in full within 48 hours after the auction ends. If you would like to do something other then this please ask me about it, the worst I can say is no.
