Description:

1956 Woodill Wildfire Roadster;
For those who aren't very familiar with this rare America sports car, Woody Woodill was a Dodge and Willy Dealership owner who wanted to build his own American sports car, he commissioned Glaspar, a fiberglass manufacturer to build the bodies and he built the frames in house. He sold a handful completed with a willys drivetrain, sold another handful as body on frame kits for clients who wanted a more powerful powerplant, and sold a few as just fiberglass shells. This example was produced with the frame and vin tag and originally sold minus the running gear. Woodill's record keeping of these cars is practically non existent and the Woodill owners club seems to believe around 30 examples remain including this one. Woody had stated that he sold a total of 300 units including the shells, but Bill Tritt, one of the founders of Glaspar who built the bodies claimed to have built around 100 for Woodill. Included in this sale are the all documents I have on the car including multiple bills of sales from the 70s and 80s, as well as correspondence between a previous owner and the president of the Woodill Owners club giving the name of the original purchaser and a list dated 1/31/88 that includes the complete registry of the 37 Wildfires that were know at the time with the current owners information, vins, and individual car specs.
Vin 9931, this Wildfire was produced and sold in 1956 and first registered in CA in 1958 and is titled as a 1958 SPCON RD (Special Construction Roadster). From what I can tell, it was never finished or even driven under its own power. At some point in the late 80's it was given modern (for the time) suspension and braking by welding on the front subframe of an 86 Capri. It has the subframe, suspension, steering and sway bar from that car as well as the rear end and suspension and brakes. The rear end coil mounts don't look very good to me and the control arms hang lower than I would like so I would recommend a 4 link with coilovers to the rear and I would then be happy putting up to 250hp through this setup.
I bought this to build for a client and he ended up deciding on having me build another vehicle instead. The motor that is currently in it is not hard mounted but resting on temporary braces to test for fitment. It is a 1956 Ford 272 Y block and 3 speed manual trans that I personally removed from a running, driving, f100 that had been restored to original in the late 90's. I pulled it to build a resto mod with a quad cam Ford motor.
I contemplated building this car and selling it complete but there are just too many ways to build it and without a buyer I decided it's better to sell it as is and let the new owner make it exactly what they want. We are a full service resto-mod shop out of Phoenix AZ so if you are interested in having us complete the car to order we are more than capable of doing that. We can get the 272 hooked up and finish it as a vintage racer, install a 289 and a top loader for more power, or we can go nuts and install a 5.0 coyote motor on a custom frame with big brakes and just go bat sh*t crazy.
The body is in great shape, no issues aside from very small normal blemishes associated with unfinished fiberglass, the hood and doors are near perfect, the trunk has some rotting on the small wood frame and the trunk inner wood itself needs some repair. the interior wood is fantastic (these original fiberglass cars often used fiberglass over wood for strength in certain spots, similar to the way the british cars have aluminum wrapped over ash wood supports.
Nada guides has a restored example of this car valued north of 100k so the value is there for whoever decides to finish it
I have tried to describe this car as honest as possible, if you have any questions you can ask them here or call or text me at 520-222-6272
I have a great shipper that can get you a quote if needed and I am happy to hold the car for up to 30 days after the auction while helping coordinate shipping to anywhere
In the photos I included the factory VIN tag on the driver door jam, the Original Brass plates that were never installed, the CA title from 1974, and the current AZ title that shows its a clean title with the correct VIN, I have too much paperwork to post it all, just text me if you need a photo of something specific
This car is sold without any warranty
