Nash Metropolitan Base (1957)
for sale
Price: US $3,250.00
Price: US $3,250.00
I'm selling my Nash Metropolitan. This is an adorable little car, which runs like a top! And I have lots of spare parts available as well.
I have done a TON of work to this car. Mechanically, it is completely restored, it just needs some additional cosmetics.
Work Done:
Rockers replaced properly by a local body shop
Brakes sorted out (master cylinder replaced, wheel cylinders replaced, drums checked and shoes relined)
Front suspensions COMPLETELY rebuilt - tie rods, spindles, shocks, everything. This is a big deal on these Metropolitans, and I would venture to say this car handles better than 99% of the Mets out there.
Newly rebuilt engine
Refreshed transmission
Engine compartment cleaned, prepped and repainted in correct Caribbean Blue
Wiring harness replaced with a brand new one
New headliner, rear interior quarter panels, carpet.
New heater core, heater control (does need new switch)
New three point inertia seatbelts in front seats.
BRAND NEW repro gas tank and new sending unit - no rusty tank problems!
Stainless exhaust
Lots of cosmetic upgrades I've forgotten.
Basically, this car should be dead reliable for you, and handles as well or better than it did new. The engine runs awesome, just purrs. It shifts nice and snappy.
It isn't a perfect car. The blue paint is flawed. But the sale will come with most of a gallon of Caribbean Blue to repaint the car. Windshield rubber should be replaced (probably with the repaint). The speedometer reads about 20% high (a spare speedo is included). The radio worked when I tested it on a battery, but didn't work after I put it in the car, so I haven't pursued that (a spare radio is included).
LOTS of spare parts... basically anything you need mechanically.
spare engine that was cooked but appears to be rebuildable
spare transmission believed to be good
spare radiator
all sort of spare suspension parts
spare steering column
spare bench seat
spare speedo and radio as mentioned plus lots of other interior parts - switches, dials etc.
On Sep-04-17 at 09:55:55 PDT, seller added the following information:* ** ** ** ** **Had a few questions come in overnight.
I transposed the VIN number when I entered it on ebay. I entered E25026, but the correct VIN is E26025. I uploaded a photo so there's no question on that.
Chassis Number E26025Body Number 26056Model Number 562Trim Number T600Paint Number P909-P905 (Caribbean Blue with White)
A question came in about rust. It's in good condition rust-wise, but IT IS NOT PERFECT. I don't want anyone mislead here. There is nothing structural, the floorpans are all solid, no holes or thin spots that I can see. There is a little rust creeping out from the joint on top where the rear fenders meet the trunk panel. This is extremely minor and easily treatable. Underneath, everything is dirty from the years. There is surface rust apparent all over the underside of the car. But again, it is not anything that I feel should scare anyone away - just typical of an old car (I uploaded some photos of the underside so you can see). It has been garaged most of its life. There is one spot on the front bumper where the chrome chipped off and rust got to it, (you can see it in the picture of the front left of the car) but that is also minor, smaller than a dime, and that is the ONLY spot on the bumper. The headlight bezels are not show-quality, but very good driver. That's how I'd describe this entire car, too... very good driver. As I've said, its strength is in the mechanicals. It runs, drives, steers and brakes absolutely perfectly.
And finally another word about the paint. The white on the roof is fine. No problems. The white on the bottom was recently done by a local body shop (the one who replaced the rockers) and it is excellent. The original color is Carribean Blue, the greenish/turquoise color under the hood. A previous owner painted the blue on the rest of the car which is an aqua color. He didn't do a stellar job. He didn't put enough hardener in the paint, so when I spilled some gasoline filling it, it ate away the blue. There is a photo of that. He also had some dust speckles throughout the paint. So the paint is functional as is... an excellent driver. But to make it really shine, you'll probably want to repaint the blue. And again, I'm including a can of Carribbean Blue in the sale - more than enough to paint the car.
ANY other questions, feel free to contact me.
