This is one of the most sensational Studebakers of all time and was the top dog in 11 car Virginia collection. It was inspired by the great grand touring cars of Europe. It had significant power, for it time, with its McCulloch (Paxton) belt driven supercharger on Studebaker's 289 V-8 that produced 275 hp at 4800 RPM. Yet it had family seating, and smooth comfortable riding.
It under went a complete frame off (body off) in 04 that ended about a year later. Just about every part that would come off was taken off, replaced, rebuilt, or refurbished. Corroded areas were cut out and welded in placed with new metal components parts from Classic Industries, no Bondo to hide rust, no pop rivets for mechanical purposes. Machine work by Dave's Horespower Shop, Richmond Va , including Supercharger rebuild and engine bore .030 over, valve guides, cam bearing, valve seats. Internal engine parts from SI major rebuild kit. Power Steering rebuild by Lares. Radiator rebuilt by L and S, Richmond, Va, all chrome redone by Hanlon and or Royal Silverplate. New front and back springs, grommets, shocks. Interior by Renee, Nashville TN
Frame was sand blasted and the inside coated with Ospho rust prevent chemical. Over $2, 361.50 in SI rubber kit, new wheel covers, refurbished wheels, rear/side view mirror, window rollers, emblem kit, seat belts, heat riser, gas filler tube, throttle boot, gas medal, heavy duty water pump radiator hoses, shift dial, dimmer switch, vacuum advance, carburetor, fuel pump, water pump, and new molding clips for use in NOS bright works from William Fennessey. Door hinges were repaired with new pins. New mater cylinder, wheels cylinders and lines. NOS brake cable and brake shoes. Refurbished original air cleaner by Don Borger . 800992 SI rubber kit consisting of 28 rubber seals, glass setting, and cat whiskers, window run. Paint is Sherman Williams base, gold /snow cap white and clear on top of 2K high build primmer. Comes with rebuilt automatic transmission, torque converter, pressure plates, and Bell housing. The object of all of the frame off restorations in this collection was to recreate the cars to new original, magnificent status but no attempt was made to restore am radios (except for knobs and face plate), and ash trays were not reinstalled. They are not number 1 show quality but, because they are driven many judges say a number 1 car has to be a trailer queen. If there are any questions, or if a part was not covered, please feel free to ask, it probably was replaced. Car is located in Deltaville, Va and is owned by its only SDC member.

No warranty or guarantee of any kind. Overseas auction winner must take full responsibility for all aspects of shipment and car must be off site by October 15, 2018. “This is a frame off by a serious collector, selling due to health, many do not see it as a 60 year old car. While just about every thing has been replaced and or repaired it would not be wise choice for long distances or high speed driving. Today's cars are much safer. Be prepared to answer "what is it" when it is gassed up. Has been very reliable to and from shows and occasional country drives. consistent winner/eye catcher.” |
