Description:

1958 Fiat Abarth 750 GT Zagato Double Bubble Series 3
I bought this car in 1997.
The prior owners that are known to me are:
Donald Osborne (NY) 1995-1997 Editor at Sports Car MarketMagazine
Steve Bresnahan (WV) 1984-1995 Used as vintage racer - raced at Sebring in 1986 and pictured in The Abarth Guide
Scott Emsley (CA) 1981-1984 (Abarth aficionado)
This particular car is pictured in the Abarth Guide (silvercar at the time) and in the 1986 Sebring Vintage Race Abarth poster
I spoke with the former owner, Steve Bresnahan, afterpurchasing the car about some of the details he performed for vintage racingunder his ownership. He told me thefollowing details about the car from my notes:
Abarth 750 rods
Brakes rebuilt
Geared up
New piston sleeves – 20 thousands over
Bordo pistons – 750 ccs
Replumed oil lines in sump
Water pump rebuilt
Radiator work
Auxiliary period radiator added to bottom of car for racing
Engine balanced
New rings
Nardi cam
Aluminium valve cover
Head has competition valve job
10.5 to 1 compression
Abarth valve springs
Magnafluxed spindles
Koni shocks
New clutch
All original Fiat Abarth nuts and bolts
Matching numbers engine installed - this alone is extremelyrare for these cars. And just likeAmerican muscle cars, the original engine makes these cars much more valuable.
Zagato body number – N2 (as stamped on various body panels)
Upon buying the car, I had it completely restored by arestoration shop in the Seattle area that did another Abarth Zagato, owned byFrank Manly, that was shown at Pebble Beach. They did a spectacular, detailed, extensive and expensiverestoration. There was some rust, corrosion and prior racing accident repair hiding under the silver paint. The body was taken down to bare metal, allrust and corrosion removed. Preventionmeasures were taken to ensure any further corrosion thru electrolysis would notreturn. Twenty plus years later, the caris amazing and 100% rust and corrosion free. The paint is spectacular in its shade of Zagato blue – which Andre’Zagato confirmed to be the correct color for the these cars.
I bought the car from a dealer. The Dealer got the car from Donald Osborne ontrade. With the car, I was sold a bunchof spare parts which I never received . The dealer sold off the spares even though our sales contract specifiedthat they were included in the sale. Inthe parts collection was the headlight trim rings the car in missing.
The interior is done in black leather. I was planning to retrim the interior tooriginal but never got around to it. Ialso didn’t have the heart to get rid of all that leather with all thatbeautiful patina. But restore the interior for very little money and this car would be near perfect as the expensive body and mechanical work is already done.
The dash is all original. All the gauges work.
Mechanically, the car is excellent. It always starts up and runs great – nomatter how long it has been sitting. Steering, brakes and suspension are also fine.
The body and chassis are nearly faultless. It is not concours but it is prettyclose. If you get out your magnifyingglass, you might find some faults, but you would be hard pressed to find themwithout one.
There are some minor trim pieces missing - like theheadlight trim rings and the front windshield trim. Also the horn and windshield wipers don'twork but it is most likely only the wire connections not put back correctlywhen the car was reassembled after restoration.
You could literally drive this car across the countrywithout issue as mechanically it is excellent. But it is a small, simple car and I think the driver would give upbefore the car would. In my 22 years ofownership, I have never had any issues with the car mechanically, other thanthe fuel pump needing to be replaced.
I have clear California title of the car in my name
I am selling this car plus a couple of classic Maseratis asI am not around enough any more to enjoy them.
These cars don’t come up for sale often. And it is rare to find one in this beautifulcondition and with matching numbers. With their aluminum bodyand Zagato coachwork, they can be expensive to restore. And as I found out, you never know whatyou’ll find hiding under the paint of a car that was not properly repaired orrestored.
The coach builder, Zagato, makes some of the most beautiful, rarest and most expensive coachbuilt cars in the world. This beautiful little car is one of the leastexpensive options to own a Zagato work of art. With its trademark “double bubble” roof line, and it diminutive size, itwill surely capture the heart and gain smiles where ever you go in it. At the Cars and Coffee events I have attendedwith the car, it always attracts a crowd more than pretty much any other car atthe show. And at the gas station, peopleactually approach you with questions and curiosity. With other exotics vehicles I’ve owned ofequal or lesser value, people are moreapprehensive to approach because of the pretentiousness associated with exoticcar ownership. This little Abarth putssmiles on people’s faces where ever it goes. But this car is more than just cute. It has a competition pedigree that few vintage cars can match. I feel these cars are actually very unvaluedtoday. Zagato coach built cars willalways be some of the most prized collectables in the world. This is a rare chance to own a nice exampleand a piece of history. And it will probably be the last one you will ever see come up for sale priced at less than 6 figures. It is priced to sell and ready for a new owner.
I have a lot more photos of the car. Contact me if you want to see more.
I also have uploaded two videos on YouTube showing moredetails of the car and you can watch it run and drive.

Accelerating away from every stop light becomes a drag racewith the car next to you - it's just that the guy next to is not trying to raceyou. ..lol. You will have no problemkeeping up with traffic as this car can do close to 100 mph. You just have to rev the motor more to makepower - an that is half the fun.
Come see and drive my car before placing a seriousbid/offer. I have the car in storage inPerris California. Please contact me ifyou have any questions. Good luck andhappy bidding.
