Edsel Ranger 4-door sedan (1959)
for sale
Price: US $9,900.00
Price: US $9,900.00
Up for bids is an award-winning Talisman Red (aka, Pink) and Snow White 1959 Edsel Ranger.
With only 46, 000 original miles, this car runs, drives and stops like new. The body and chassis are solid and straight - very tight, without the typical rattles/squeaks of Ford products of the era. The paint, chrome and glass are in nice shape. Accessories include original radio, full wheel covers with spinner and body-colored applique, and the Edsel-only hooded side mirror.
This Edsel's low mileage is attributed to its unique history. It was on display at the Museum of Automobiles in Arkansas, until the museum's founder passed away and the entire collection was sold to famed car collector William Harrah. From there it was donated to Boston's WGBH Public Broadcasting station for their wildly popular Channel 2 Auction. It was a featured auction item in May 1977, won by Dr. James Hall in Putnam, CT. The current owner (president of the New England Chapter of the Edsel Owners Club) purchased the car from Dr. Hall in October 2010.
This Edsel recently completed a survivor restoration, where the car was kept as original as possible to meet AACA Survivor Standards. New brakes, professionally rebuilt carburetor, new ignition components, etc. The seat upholstery was replaced with Edsel-correct Surf Cloth from SMS, and turned out gorgeous. Minor surface refinishing was applied to the doors and roof - the hood and trunk have original paint. The door panels, headliner, carpet and dash are all original. Reproduction Edsel front and rear floor mats are included. Its Mile-O-Matic automatic transmission was replaced with a rebuilt matching Edsel unit in 2012. The car shifts smoothly. It's always kept in dry indoor storage when it's not driven to car shows and cruise nights. Most recently it won the Best of Show award at the August 2018 North Shore Old Car Club meet. Its enormous trophy can go with the car if you want. Be warned, driving an iconic representative of the late '50s such as a big pink Edsel attracts a lot of attention.
The only flaws are thin spots and wear in the original paint on the hood and front quarters, and minor paint loss from normal usage in the trunk - see photos.
The only reason the Edsel is for sale is, it's garaged here in Salem, Massachusetts. Storage spaces are at a premium, and I'm losing the spot in 2019. So it's time to start looking for someone who'll care for the car in their own garage. The car has a current registration, has passed the state inspection in September and comes with a clear title. This Edsel Ranger is ready to drive and enjoy. You're encouraged to schedule a viewing prior to bidding so you know exactly how nice the car is. Please call Peter at 978-744-9198 or send questions via eBay.
Seller will assist with access to the car, but pick-up arrangements are the responsibility of the successful bidder. The Edsel will be available for pickup after the funds have cleared. Payment is expected within 14 days of the close of the auction. Note that the car is for sale locally and on Edsel.com. Seller reserves the right to cancel the auction if the car is sold before the bidding ends.
Good luck with the bidding and thanks for checking in!
