Price: US $12,900.00
The Facts:
1960
Nash Metropolitan Series IV convertible with 73, 065 miles. This is an original
factory, numbers matching, convertible 561 model.
55HP/ 82lb/ft. 0-60 mph in 19.4 sec. ¼ mile 21.4sec. @ 62
mph. Top speed 78 mph. 30 MPG.
Numbers matching engine overhauled in 2010, starts right up
and is reliable. It has a “three on the tree”, 3-speed transmission and shifts
smoothly and doesn’t smoke, leak, or use oil. Installed new battery in 2017.
New convertible top in 2011 and seals with no leaks. It is garaged kept and has
a custom Metropolitan car cover made for it. Heater, lights, signals, etc. all
work fine and passes inspection with no issues. Has been driven in the Houston
heat with no issues. The car is listed in the MOCNA registry- VIN E86305.
Manufactured in March 1960.
The Fixes:
Normal
cosmetic issues for a 57-year-old driver’s car- rubber, paint, and glass age.
Paint is original and looks great from a distance but is cracking on close
inspection. One area of paint wear on drivers rear fender. (pic)
One plate in rear drivers-side leaf spring cracked in half
and the half-leaf was removed. Car doesn’t lean and does not affect drivability.
New leaf spring assembly is available from metpitstop.com for $198.
Radio
tube
is bad and AM radio does not
work. NOS tubes are also available if you want to keep it original or a
conversion is available that uses the stock knobs for control, but has a hidden
speaker and electronics for AM/FM and an iPod jack. The radio antenna mounting
bushing ($21) is cracked and the antenna wobbles around a little.
The Fun:
I bought
this for my wife's birthday back in 2011 and this has been her baby. We take it
to breakfast on the weekends and to see family on the other side of Houston, 80
miles away. It can happily do freeway speeds but we drive it at 55-60 mph to
try to be gentle with it. This is not a car to take out if you are trying to
run errands and don’t want to stop and talk to people. It attracts more
attention than a garbage fire in the parking lot. People CONSTANTLY say “nice
car”, “cool car”, “what kind of car is that”. People love to sit in in and take
pictures with it. I never could have imagined. It is one of those cars that
just makes you feel good to drive. You can restore this car to concours quality
with little effort, if you are looking for an investment, or you can leave it
as an original drivers car, and enjoy it as it is for years to come.
The Extras:
Custom, breathable, waterproof, Metropolitan car cover made for the shape of the car.
A white convertible top boot with fasteners is included. The
boot is still new in the box and needs the fasteners attached to it.
We have a, new-in-box, side fender Metropolitan script to
add to the car. This car did not originally come with the script but it is an
option some people like.
Owners Manual sealed in plastic bag in glove compartment.
232 page Metropolitan Factory Technical Service Manual included.
Various brochures and flyers.
Also included are some new rubber seals for the trunk that
have been purchased and yet to be installed on the car. We were going to start
replacing all of the old rubber on the car for aesthetics.
The Bottom Line:
The
reason we are trying to find it a new home is because my wife is partially
handicapped and can’t drive it on her own- no power brakes, no power steering.
She is about to have two knee replacements which means we wont be taking it out
together for at least a year. I have a Factory Five Cobra that is nearing
completion and the poor little Nash deserves a better fate that being locked in
a garage and only seeing light every three months or so. We hate to see it go
but having four cars and one regular driver doesn’t make much sense. Cars
deserve to be driven and enjoyed. We have had a lot of fun with it and wish the
next owner as much happiness as we have had with it. NADA lists average
retail at $16, 200. Hagerty lists a #3 Good value at $13, 100. I am asking a firm
$12, 900 so it can find a good home. $500 non-refundable deposit required within
48hrs of close of auction. Payment by cash or wire transfer. I can meet you or
your representative at a bank with the title to complete the transaction.
Transport to be arranged at buyers expense. Vehicle is sold as-is. I am happy to hold the car while
you arrange transport and drive it to the local shopping center parking lot to meet your
transporter, or you can drive it home from the bank. One note- this is a small
car and has a narrow wheel width of 61.5 inches. Verify with your shipper that
it will fit the ramps of the transport carrier.
Vehicle is for sale locally and seller reserves the right to end the auction early.
