Description:

Up for auction is a 1962 Alfa Romeo Spider Normale 1300 convertible 101 series. I owned this Alfa in the late 1960s, this was my daily driver. Probably one of the most fun and dependable cars I ever owned. Moving to the country, I traded it for a 1956 Ford step side pickup with a Thunderbird engine. It was a fun truck but I realized almost immediately I should have kept the Alfa and bought the Ford outright. I spent almost the last 40 years trying to buy it back and restore it to the condition when I first purchased it. A very long story short, I was able to buy it back last year. As much as I had planned on restoring its not in the cards and my hope is someone will purchase and restore this Spider. The best thing about this Spider is that it has really never been apart, engine, trans, rear end are all original to the car. The Alfa sat in a barn since the mid 1980s when it was driven in and parked. The owners son had lost interest in driving it any longer. This Alfa was originally white in color. Some time in the early 1980s the owners son took the car to a high school auto-body class to clean up the body and paint. This explains the grey primer, poor installation on the outer rocker panel pieces only, and the bad plastic work on a few minor outer body dents. The exterior over all is in good condition. It does need the inner and outer rocker panels and the cross pieces below the trans mount, as well as the floor panels below the seat sliders replaced. The car has settled and the doors still close but must be slammed harder because of the tight gap at the top of the door and quarter shut pillar. In my opinion, the rust out at the side areas of the front floors, shut closer at the end of the rockers front and back, and the inside quarter and out side edge of the trunk floor, could be repaired rather than replaced. There's not much exterior body work to do. Under hood areas are in good condition. All original pieces, air cleaner, washer bag, electrics, etc. are present. The exhaust manifold is broken at the Y joint, probably could be welded, and the plastic fan has some broken blades. Most trim pieces are present, rocker, hood, and trunk moldings, trunk lock and housing, handles, correct hinges, front and rear bumpers and over-riders, eyebrows, grille, and crossbars and headlamp rims, lights, etc. Some pieces are usable but most would have to be repaired, polished, or re-plated. Missing parts are the lower fender Pininfarina badges, spare wheel and tire, jack, some tools, license plate lights, left door glass, and some inner door pulls or handles. Some of the trim is just sitting on the car for picture purposes. The top bows and hold down latches are intact but the vinyl has shrunk to the point it won't latch. Currently I'm calling the engine stuck, I don't know how hard, it was in dry storage. I've made no attempt to start it or turn it over and wouldn't until I was ready to restore. The car rolls, but hard because the brakes are dragging some, so I didn't try pushing it to bump the engine over either. As I said the Alfa was last driven in the mid 80s. The windshield is scratched and would need to be replaced. The dash, knobs, trim and gauges are in good condition. The dash pad is gone. The steering wheel and horn button are in good condition, I think one crack at the cross bar to outer ring, but are not on the car, a replacement leather steering wheel is currently on the car. The turn signal assembly is broken but still present. I think the seats could be later Alfa as they have they have a higher back but look like the 101 seats in shape. These were in the car when I bought it back in the late 60s. I've been a bodyman my whole life and don't view this Alfa as an intimidating project, but please under stand that this vehicle needs to be gone thru completely to bring it back up to valuable, driveable condition. Please look over the pictures carefully before you bid. I want no disappointment after purchase. This Alfa sells to the high bidder! Please don't bid if you can't follow thru in a timely manner. $ 1000.00 deposit due at auction end within 24 hours. Balance due before delivery, wire transfer, cash or bank check. I have a clear Illinois title in my name. What you see in the pictures and read in the description is what I have for this car. Nothing else goes with it. The body number, Vin is AR174479. Transportation details and the expense of shipping is the responsibility of the buyer. I will help on my end loading and communicating. The Alfa is located in northern Illinois, Freeport, Il. 61032, about 2 hours northwest of Chicago. If you have any question feel free to call Tom @ 1-815-238-3516 . If I don't answer , please leave a short message and I'll call you back as soon as possible. Thanks for your interest!
