Shelby Cobra 427 S/C Replica - The Ultimate Christmas Gift (1965)
for sale

Price: US $55,000.00

Description:

Professionally built and maintained Jaguar XKE based 1965 427 S/C Cobra Roadster. It is powered by a 351 CI 385 hp Ford H.O. SVO roller engine with a five speed Tremec T5 transmission ; very quick, agile, extremely dependable and comfortable. It is the kind of car that you could just hop into and take a drive to Monterey or Los Angeles without having to worry about anything. Currently, the ride is set on the softer side and it still corners like it is on rails, but the suspension can be adjusted for a stiffer ride if that is preferred.
Unlike most home built kits, the engine compartment, trunk and even the undercarriage are finished off with brushed aluminum or stainless steel. This car was shown with a plate mirror underneath; the entire Jaguar XKE rear suspension and differential is either powder coated, polished or chromed. With the exception of the spark plug wires, all of the wiring is completely hidden. There is a large electric fan that is thermostatically controlled with a manual override, and overheating has never been a problem, even when idling in 100+ degree heat.
The dashboard has been personally signed by Carroll Shelby and there is a certificate of authentication to prove it. The dashboard is completely correct and has a full complement of the proper Smith’s gauges, including the appropriate “backward” speedometer. In the interest of full disclosure, there is no glovebox, only a glovebox door, because the space where the glovebox would be is taken up with a heater that works very well on cold days.
The car has been continuously registered in California as a 1965 Ford since 1995, so there cannot be any registration or smog issues, so far as DMV is concerned, it is a 1965 Ford.
Included in the sale are a custom car cover, a large binder with several hundred pages of detailed receipts and technical sheets that document the entire history of the car from 1995 onward and a tool kit with many specialized tools for the car.

History:
This car is a replica and it is therefore, technically, the car is not a “real” Cobra, it is technically, a “real” Brightwheels Replica Ltd. Viper that was produced in the mid to late ‘80s in Christchurch, England. The body style indicates that it is an earlier model that was built with a Jaguar fully independent suspension and rear end. It was brought to the US in 1995, where it underwent a complete professional off the frame restoration, and for the next five years, it was strictly a show car which was trailered to and from shows; it only had 125 miles on the odometer after all of that time.
It passed through a few hands over the next five years, and I bought it in late 2004. I bought it to drive, and had the car professionally restored and rebuilt again as a driver by Top of the Hill Performance Center in Livermore, CA. Although it is a great driver, it still does quite well at car shows; we came home with awards three out of the five times that we took it to the huge “Cherries Jubilee” car show in Monterey, CA. The car has never been raced or used in any open track events, although it has been opened up from time to time, just to keep it carbon-free, of course.
