Thanks for stopping by to take a look at our very cool 1966 Sunbeam Alpine Series V Convertible. Perfectly suited for your inner secret Agent 007 or even Maxwell Smart’s Agent 86 with Agent 99 by your side!
Part of the British sports car invasion of the 60’s and well known to collectors and vintage racers alike, the Alpine is fun to drive, inexpensive to operate and an appreciating asset in your portfolio.
As our GI’s returned from Europe, demand was high for sporting automobiles and the Sunbeam Alpines were competing against MGs, Mustang’s, Triumphs, Austin Healey’s and Jaguars for those sales.
The Alpine became famous in many films of the 60’s and was driven by legendary performers like Cary Grant, Elizabeth Taylor, Michael Caine and Tuesday Weld. From James Bond films to the Get Smart Television series, the Sunbeam Alpine was a favorite among movie stars and racers alike.
Currently in “driver” condition, this great Alpine runs well and drives nicely. She has not been cut up, abused or raced. She will need attention to the floors soon but upgrades can be done while keeping this bit of British motoring heritage alive and on the road.
Rarity
Produced in limited quantities from 1959 to 1968 The Sunbeam Alpine is a rare sight to see outside of a British car meet. This is the Series 5 car with the larger 1725 engine, synchromesh transmission and easy to use convertible top..
Exterior
Driver quality clear coated Carnival Red paint has been maintained and shines up well. The black convertible top is newer and the rear window is clear.
Floors
As is typical with Sunbeam Alpines, the floors will need attention. Please review the video and pictures provided. Come and look in person or send your inspector if you are not sure.
Wheels, Tires
Lightweight aftermarket alloy wheels and good tyres are in place.
Engine
1725 cc British hotrod. (This is the big engine for this marque) She sports an upgraded Weber carburetor, a big improvement over standard. Freshly serviced radiator, new water pump, belts and hoses. Valve adjust. Runs well. Compression check photos are on our website www.driven.co
Transmission
4 Speed Manual transmission is smooth and responsive. No noises or unusual behavior.
Braking, Steering
Front disc brakes and rear drums operating properly. Steering is precise and on point.
Service
Fresh service, turn key and ready to go! Coolant, oil, filters, hoses and belts.
Trim
The chrome trim is in good shape. Some minor pitting and wear can be seen, see pics and video.
Convertible Top
The convertible top is fairly new and the rear window is in good condition. One handed easy operation and stowage. One small repair. See the pics and video.
Glass
The glass is in good condition.
Interior
Nice seats, carpets, dash and door panels.
Boot
Nicely trimmed out with carpeting. No evidence of any prior damage or repairs.
Odometer
The odometer shows 63816 miles.
DMV
The title is clear and all documentation is included. No back fees are due. No smog is required. Very low cost Antique registration and insurance for most US States.
Comparables
There are very few comparable Alpine cars for sale at this time. Sunbeam Tigers seem to be available in the $50, 000 to $75, 000 range. We sell “done” Alpines for high teens to low twenties. Given the extreme scarcity of available cars, this Alpine represents an outstanding value that can be enjoyed while being restored as well as being an appreciating investment in automotive art.
