Bentley T1 4 door Saloon (1967)

Price: US $1,000.00

Description:

This is a beautiful example of a nice original Bentley T1. It seems to have spent the majority of its life in Napa County only a couple of hours away, and was obviously well taken care of by its previous lady owner, Judith.
I don't see too many of these around any more, even at British car shows, and was surprised to come across this one in such fine shape. The build quality and construction on these cars was top notch and it still shows to this day, especially compared to other cars of its vintage. The cars has significant presence and oozes quality.However..its not a car I desire..I purchased it specifically to trade for another car that I desire to add to my collection, and after some back an forth, have now agreed to purchase that car outright . Offering this Bentley for sale as i need the space and dont have time nor the interest to recommission it . The car has been parked unused for several years and was purchased 'as is' in not running condition.. a new high quality battery (Exide brand) was fitted and the fuel pump removed and serviced.. an issue with the charging system resolved ( generator removed and sent out.. came back with a clean bill of health) as was the leaking brake fluid reservoir..
First things first, the body of the car is remarkably sound and straight. I looked all over and cannot find any evidence of accidents or collision repair. All of the doors, boot, and bonnet all shut very well with a nice solid thunk just like you want. The only obvious rust that I can find on it is isolated to the very left rear corner underneath the bumper, but otherwise the rest of the car is solid for its age. The floors don't even have any surface rust on them. The original Plum color is hard to capture in photos, but is almost a deep wine colored hue. The paintwork is certainly not perfect but more than presentable, and looks fantastic from about 5-10 feet away. All of the chrome trim is intact and in good condition, glass is in good shape, but there are 2 minor stone chips in windshield that are easily missed, and the rubber seals have plenty of life left in them.
The interior is superb. It just oozes class and abundance like only a luxury British car from the Sixties can. All of the wood is in great shape and shows well. No faded veneers, no chips, no delamination. All of the leather seats are nice and supple, and very comfortable. The picnic trays built into the back of the front seats fold out perfectly and are just begging for some Grey Poupon and fine wine. . All jokes aside the interior of this car is just really spectacular and really must be seen to be fully appreciated. All 4 of the power windows work well as do all of the lights, gauges, and switches.
Mechanically its V8 starts up easily and seems to run well, though there is a some lifter noise I haven't investigated yet. (checked the cost of replacements from 'touring shoppe' and they run approx $360 per set) It runs well though and has plenty of power, has good oil pressure, and doesn't smoke, nor is there any trace of blow by when the oil filler cap is removed with engine running. charging system was not working initially, but was repaired last week ..The transmission shifts through all of its gears as it should and doesn't slip. The power steering works great, you could steer it with just one finger if you wanted. While it does fire right up, run and drive, its does need to be re-commissioned as its not been used for some time. The brake warning light remains on .. front brakes do not seem to be properly working and as such it is not 100% ready for the road. The rear brakes stop it well enough that you can drive it around a parking lot slowly, but I would suggest going over the front brakes before deeming it roadworthy and taking it out on the highway. I did clean out brake fluid reservoir and replaced the seals on the windows, (initially it was leaking fluid) but have done nothing further...I'd suggest a full overhaul of the high pressure system.. I have NOT attempted to bleed the brakes but that would be next step..always wise to consider the worst and look into replacing/rebuilding both accumulators and pumps .. you can check out prices on these from The Touring Shoppe in Las Vegas.. or your local specialist.. The tires are in good shape with plenty of tread and no dry rot cracks. both font footwell carpets have also bee replaced..(original 50 yrs old latex backed woolen carpets had likely been cleaned with modern solvents, and started to come apart, which let down the rest of the interior) they match perfectly
The car is complete and includes its original jack, tire irons, and owners handbook, the spare wheel is present, but missing its tire. The tool tray is present, however.. the tools are missing.. just a few of the spare lamp bulbs are present.
To sum up :- the car presents well and is sound overall.. the interior of the car is lovely..it does need re-commissioning due to lack of use for several years .. but it does runs and drive albeit with very weak front brakes..sufficient to load on to a car hauler for transporting..
The car is located and can be viewed by appointment in Newcastle, CA just Northeast of Sacramento. It has a clean title and title states it is currently registered here in California through June of 2017, but there are no tags attatched to the plate and they are not present .. there is no registration slip. email if you have further questions.. Im traveling next week, but will have lap top with me. car is also for sale locally and hence may be withdrawn from ebay if sold.
