This is a 49 year old coupe and a fifty year old sedan, and I encourage you to come by in person to check them out to make sure they are what you are looking for. My wife and I are thinning the herd.
So, when you buy these two together, you may either restore both and end up with two really rare, fast cars, or focus on one, and have spares till kingdom come :-). Old age is catching up with me and the cars... I digress...
The first one of the pair is my 1968 Opel Commodore A Coupe
, 2.5l 6 cylinder with dual carbs. Complete car, unrestored, never wrecked, 4 speed manual on the floor. Very rare - less than 1500 were built in the five years they offered it from 1967 to 1971. Has original wheels and a new set of 14 tires. This is the only one on the East Coast, and within the last ten years I have not learned of another in the continental US! Empty weight is 2400lbs, and motor puts out about 140Hp (you can tune it to around 300, if you wish), which makes it a very quick, sporty ride, with a top speed of about 125mph. Beyond that, it'll take off, and you'll need an entirely different license...
Needs restoration. All technical parts are readily and reasonably available through (yes!) Autozone and ebay! Comes with a trunk full of Commodore-specific spare parts, inclusive extra carbs and a rare set of hubcaps and beauty rings for regular steel rims. Rear side windows wind down, so you have no B-pillar messing up the beautiful lines of this rare coupe. Starts right up when putting a lil gas into the carbs and jumping it.
Who needs a Porsche, Mercedes, BMW, Alfa Romeo, Lancia, or the like, of which there are still thousands around, when you can have the only one in the continental US, and one of less than a 100 worldwide?
The only thru-rust that needs to be addressed as far as I can tell is at the lower door hinge on the driver's side, a hole in the door sill on the drivers side right where it opens, and (as a result of that) a rusted out jack point on the driver's side rear.
Quarter panels, fender corners near the head lights, trunk floor etc are all good!
The second one of the pair is my 1967 Opel Commodore
, that is amazingly 99% rust free (really!), no dents, no bondo, never wrecked, original 63k miles, two speed power-glide automatic, built in first 6 months of production! 2.5 liter in-line 6 cylinder.
It is dismantled but rolls around, to prep it for new paint. Comes with all parts. Chrome and glass is in excellent shape (and rubbers around them also!), power steering. Original owner bought it in Germany (dealer plaque still on the rear!), used it around Washington D.C., then retired to Connecticut and passed away. I bought it from his mechanic. Drove it from storage place to storage place before dismantling. Engine ran strong (Yeeeehaw!, and tranny shifted flawlessly. Power glide transmission has been rebuilt already. Bill of sale only, does not have a VA title.
This car deserves to be rebuilt also - it is SO rare and has cool history!
Price for both is $8, 500.
No buyers from outside of the continental US or Tennessee!
I don't know how to change that detail at the beginning of the listing under shipping.
Ask any questions before you buy, I'd like for you and me to have a happy transaction ;-).
Thank you for looking :-)
