I purchased this car on a whim 2 years ago. I had been searching for a solid, non-rusty Datsun for a while. Unfortunately everything I looked at was a bit of a rusty mess. After giving up looking, this car was sitting in the garage with another car I had purchased and I could not pass it up.
It's best described as a driver and has never let me down. It's the kind of car you can just hop in and go. It fires up every time, has never exhibited any type of battery drain during my ownership and is a pleasure to drive.
Everything works on the vehicle, with the exception of the radio, and the clock.
I jumped on this one as the body was not in fact destroyed by rust. I have not been able to find any patch panels on the vehicle. The undercarriage has never been coated with any junk, so you can see all the panels and spot welds clearly. The trunk is as solid as they get, the rockers are mint.
The paint on the car is not new and probably 15 to 20 years old as this point. Also, these cars had very, very thin metal, so across the body, there are lots of small shallow dents. If you lean one these panels with your palms, they will in fact dent. It's hard to show these in the photos, however, if someone were to repaint the car, they would be addressed when the body was blocked out.
The interior is all original stuff and has stood up to the test of time. It's not perfect, but totally usable and in good original condition. The top is in good shape and can be thrown up depending on weather conditions.
Overall, I'd call it a 10 or 15 footer. Very presentable, but far from perfect. Drive it to the grocery store and you won't freak out if you leave it in the parking lot.
In summary, unlike so many vintage vehicles, it has not had the wrong hands improperly restoring and making every subsequent owner's experience a nightmare. It was the purest one I could find, but I'm tapped out on space, and she needs a new care taker.
