Datsun Z-Series (1970)
for sale
Price: US $23,000.00
Price: US $23,000.00
After nearly 24 years of ownership I'm finally selling my
beautiful 1970 240Z. It's time to move
onto other things. I purchased this car
from its second owner in Sacramento, and except for brief periods it has been a
California car for its entire existence. The car has always been garaged and never driven in the rain. The car basically rust-free. The odometer currently has 158, 515 miles on
it. It has a clear California title. Location: Lompoc, California.
This 240Z was painted by Chris Pickles about 10 years
ago. Chris has painted national show-car
winners and the quality of his work is top notch. In today's money, this paint job would likely
cost somewhere in the $10, 000 range. Before
painting, the car was stripped of its windows and everything in the engine
compartment removed. All of the chrome
was redone and all weather-stripping replaced. I just spent another $3, 000 last week getting the paint refreshed at
Chris's shop and it looks spectacular.
As noted in the pictures the car has an extensively modified
suspension to include Ground Control coil-overs, 5-way adjustable Tokikos, urethane all around, and
larger sway bars. To help the handling
it also has a 3.90 R200 equipped with a NISMO clutch-style LSD. It also has brand new (less than 20 miles on
them) Firestone Firehawk Indy 500 ultra-high performance tires. Needless to say the car handles
superbly. When equipped with Hoosier
R-compound tires (not included in sale) this 240Z has won fastest time of day
by over 2 seconds at local Corvette club sponsored autocrosses.
The brakes have been upgraded to Toyota S12W calipers up
front and 300ZX disks on the back. The 5-speed
280Z transmission was recently fully rebuilt (see scanned receipt), with all
new synchros and seals. The engine has
approximately 20, 000 miles on it since being rebuilt. It is a lightly modified L28 (flat top
pistons, larger valves, mild cam, etc.) which dyno'd a while back at 165
rwhp. Unfortunately the engine recently has been slowly leaking at the rear main
seal area. When the transmission was
being rebuilt, the engine rear main seal was replaced but despite this did not
staunch the leak. I suspect the leak is
due to bad vertical rubber strips that are part of the rear main assembly. The carburetors were redone by ZTherapy and
have no issues. The ignition has been upgraded
to electronic and as seen in the pictures I've installed an aluminum 3-row
radiator.
The dash is uncracked and in excellent shape, as is much of
the interior including the door panels. Included with the sale are the original seat and seat belts should you
wish to bring it back to stock. I also
have several boxes of spare parts accumulated through the years which will be
included.
Known issues other than the rear-main leak: the cardboard
glove-box is in poor shape, the clock has never worked in all the 24 years I've
owned the car, and when the windows are open some exhaust is pulling through
the rear deck seal (likely due to misalignment of one of the rubber seals) .
Please email me at markbelrose@hotmail.com with any
questions. If you have the time, I highly
recommend you view the car in-person here in Lompoc. However, I will be out of town from May 4-8 so
receipt of the car isn't possible until May 9 at the earliest. I require the winning bidder to pay a $2, 000 deposit within 24 hours of
auction end with the balance due 7 days
after auction end.
