This is a 1970 Numbers Matching E-Type that I purchased in 2011 and was
told the body underwent a full restoration and refinish about fifteen years
prior to my purchase. The paint is
excellent with very few imperfections and is a base coat/clear coat finish. The chrome is decent for a driver but I did
plan to have the bumpers re-plated at some point. Car runs and drives excellent although it
does consume some oil between oil changes which I suspect may be worn valve
seals. I have reconditioned all mechanical systems on the car. All brake calipers were rebuilt with new
seals and stainless steel pistons. All
suspension rubber was renewed. The
clutch master cylinder and slave cylinder were completely refurbished and the
brake master cylinder was replaced. A
cool cat spin on oil filter adapter was installed as was a new alternator and
voltage regulator. Clutch and brake
fluid bottles were also replaced. Suspension
components that were removed were abrasive blasted and urethane coated. New upper & lower ball joints installed
as well as new Boge front shocks.
The rear IRS was removed and the “cage” was powder-coated. The rear suspension was completely rebuilt with
all new seals and needle bearings as well as four new Boge shocks and
refinished. Pinion Seal in the
Differential was replaced and the unit was refilled with synthetic gear lube as
was the transmission. The interior of
the trunk has new plywood panels as well as a new correct fuel pump. The old one worked fine but was replaced as a
precaution and will go with the car as a spare. The boot hinge springs were also replaced. The entire underside of the car was stripped
to bare metal and urethane coated. The
area around the rear suspension cage was coated with 3-M Body Schutz as was the
interior of the boot before the fuel tank was reinstalled. All wiring was gone through and all
accessories work as they should.
A new Twillfast top was purchased from German Auto Tops in North
Hollywood, CA and installed after the top frame was stripped and refinished and
the wood nailing strip was replaced around the back of the cockpit. The wood was also coated with epoxy resin
after it was fitted to the car. Interior
was completely stripped and a heat reflective / sound deadening butyl mat was
installed over the entire cockpit interior followed by insulation and custom
carpets. The result is probably the
quietest and coolest E-Type you’ll ever drive and is much cooler than the
original carpet and thin padding provided for.
A new set of 205/65/R15 Pirelli P6 tires and new tubes on mint
condition Dayton wire wheels which were purchased by the previous owner about
ten years ago. Radiator was
ultrasonically cleaned and flow tested. Valve Covers and Cross-over Pipe were Powder-Coated. Radio was upgraded with a vintage look unit
as were the speakers. All items installed
on this car were either from SNG Barratt or Terry’s/Engel Imports and no
expense was spared.
The fuel tank was removed, cleaned, refinished and send out to have the
interior coated with a finish that will protect it from ethanol fuels. Carburetors were gone through and balanced. The Distributor was rebuilt and set-up by
Advanced Distributors, LLC and new Motor & Transmission and Radiator mounts
were installed. I also did an LED Gauge
Light Conversion and installed a new Dash Cover. The heater assembly was removed to replace
the core but since the car isn’t used in the cold weather I left it off to
provide for more room under the bonnet. I also have the windshield bottle, just haven’t reinstalled it. I have all door panel hardware and trim that
isn’t displayed in the photos as this is one job I didn’t get back to. The arm rests/door pulls are complete but
have some cracking and were planned to be replaced.
This summer the starter was replaced with a Denso Gear Reduction
Starter and a new Interstate battery. I have the Heritage Certificate for the car and have put about 5, 000
miles on it since I purchased it. The
car just turned 80, 000 which I believe to be original but cannot confirm. I’ve decided to sell the car as I’m just not
using it enough and could use the room for other projects. Additional Photos can be viewed at: here /
