A rebuilt engine was put into it in 1984 and has less than 5000 miles on it. This was done while away
from home serving in the USMC. The throw out bearing is not installed because it would not fit. Unknown exactly what the issue is (wrong crank?).
It has rust, but not as bad as many of these cars do. All windows are in tact and original as far as I know. Passenger side window will not roll up or down without repair.
The tires were new in 2001, have been mostly unused. They now have cracked sidewalls and will need to be replaced.
The engine compartment hood is starting to rust. Floorboards are good and solid with some rust on the
drivers side floorboard. The trunk has rust and there are some small holes in the trunk from rust.
The rear quarter panels are the worst rust damage as it has rusted all the way through. I do not
have the original engine block, but the heads are from the original engine. The headliner is falling down
and the seats are in need of reupholstering. There is a small rust hole at the center base of the rear window,
which is very common for this car. Also, a larger rust hole at the drivers side base of the rear window
(visible in pictures).
It has aftermarket headers that were on it when I bought it. I removed all the emblems and have since
misplaced or lost them. Still looking for them.
The vehicles has current Oregon Title and has Oregon SP plates which means it never has to go through DEQ and the plates never expire (In Oregon).
To the best of my knowledge, I am the third owner of the vehicle. It was purchased new from The House of Hardtops on 82nd Ave in Portland Oregon. When I first got the car at age 16 in 1978 and put new tires on it, it practically drove itself down the freeway, so I know there is no issue with a bent frame.
I was involved in one minor accident in it where someone ran into the front of it. The damage from that
accident is visible to the front of the hood, a broken plastic grill and a bent front bumper. There is some
damage to the right front fender just behind the right wheel. There is a rust spot coming through the paint
on the left side near the rear window. All running light, reverse, turn signal lenses are in place. One of
the reverse light lenses is cracked.
Over the years I have had many people try to pry this baby away from me. I always thought I would restore it, but since I am now 54 and still without a secure place to keep it, and no where to work on it, I have given up on that idea. If you buy it, please feel free to send me pictures of it. I would enjoy seeing it restored to its original glory.
Two years ago, I put new brake parts on and have driven it on short 14 mile trips to and from it storage space
on about 6 ocasions. Since I do not have a garage to work on it, the brakes still need adjustments as it still
pulls a bit to the left. The shocks are still the same ones that were on it when I parked it in 1985, so they
are shot. It will need mufflers and exhaust pipe. Old mufflers have rusted through.
It currently has a single barrel carburetor (bought off Ebay from a older roadrunner) attached with adapter.
There is no choke mechanism installed so it is hard to start cold. Once warm, it starts right up.
The oil in the engine is crystal clear and as I said previously, the engine is new, other than sitting so long.
I stored it with oil in the engine and hand turned it over every year or so to lubricate bearings and seals.
It has a new water pump, thermostat, deep cycle battery ($150.00) replaced in the last two years. I also put
$700.00 into a new alarm and geo location unit. Most brake parts were new two years ago including springs, pins and two or three of the brake cylinders. No A/C. No power steering. It did not come with these options.
Please contact me if you are interested. I can send video or pictures of specific parts or whatever else
you'd like to inspect. I have many more pictures and some videos of me driving it recently. It does NOT need to spend another winter outside, but if you cannot come get it for a few months, it can stay where it is free of charge for now.
Some hidden issues with the vehicle;
1) Fuel comes out the fill tube no matter how well I try to seal it. I believe there must be an air leak around
the top seal where the gas gauge float goes in.
2) Passenger side window has had some of the guts removed (see parts pic)so that the window could be
braced in the closed position with a piece of wood.
3) There is some bondo in the right rear quarter panel and possibly the right front fender. These repairs
are from the previous owner.
4) When I first got it running 4 years ago, the brake and taillights worked. They stopped working and I have had to run some wires to make them work so I could move it. I believe this is a grounding issue that will be resolved when rust issues are taken care of.
5) Drivers door hinge pin bushing is missing. I have bought, but not installed the hinge.
6) I noted a oil leak in the rear left wheel seal when it was parked on a left leaning slope. It does not leak on
flat surface or when the lean is to the right.
7) There does not seem to be any hot coolant making it through the heater core. When I replaced the water pump and thermostat, the thermostat had dissolved and also the blades on the water pump were nubs.
