Have you ever had the burning desire (pun intended) to pull a house? Or possibly put a tow chain around a small village and move it? This 1973 International Harvester Forestry Truck is the answer. I bought this truck with the intentions of using it to pull my car trailer / use as a service truck but with harsh NY winters I think it’s better to get something newer. This truck is an Ex-Forestry Fire truck which came from California a month ago on a truck. For those of you who don’t know about International Harvester Co. It build Heavy Duty trucks until the end of the 70’s out of Chicago, Illinois. Unfortunately, financial issues caused them to close their doors and then the company was eventually turned into Navistar International which are the new Internationals you see today. Some of the special features of this truck are Dana 70 axles, limited slip rear end, a Borg Warner 4 Speed transmission - these trannies are known to be bulletproof! This truck is very cool and unique - a necessity for any fire truck collection / or IHC collection. The truck supposedly only has 41, 000 original miles but I cannot verify that. The truck has a 345ci V8 which runs very nicely - fires right up in the cold and has a ton of power. The engine does not smoke at all. The pump is really cool with a PTO driven pump that goes to the back of the truck with its own driveshaft. The fire body is in super nice shape - all the doors open and close really well, the lockers look like they’ve never been used. The truck is missing the heater box but I suppose since it was in California it was not needed - I have found a few online already. The truck does have some rust forming along the roof however the underside is very clean, there are hints of body work at one time on the rocker but the frame, fenders and cab floor are very clean. The frame looks like new it’s actually quite remarkable but I guess that’s because I’m from NY and trucks rust out within 1 year of winter use. This truck is being sold AS-IS with no warranties. This is a 43 year old truck, it is not a 2015 Dodge. The truck has it’s quirks and could use some work but it is a very nice chassis to do a complete restoration on or enjoy as is. The paint work is not something you would show at Pebble Beach but it’s looks pretty good. The tires have good tread as well.
