1973 Volkswagen Bus/Vanagon Transporter

Volkswagen Bus/Vanagon Transporter (1973)
for sale

Price: US $18,000.00

Description:

For sale, my loving VW bus, called Nell, a 1973 hightop camper van. Clean title, flat pancake engine with carburetor. Original color is blue, painted green in London. 80, 000 kilometers on the odometer.
History, the bus was made in Germany and shipped to the US. In 1980 it was shipped to the UK where it spent 8 years in Ireland, then returned to the States, where I found it in Arcata, California several years ago left out in a field.
VIN # is 2232070106, though the number is too short, does not appear in search engines.
The engine is solid, I've used it as a daily driver and camping. I bought it to restore to it's heyday state, it's been a passion bringing it back to life. I've lifted the fiberglass hightop up onto 4x4s, to put new seals and screws. The walls have been insulated with spray foam, along with new wood paneling and shelves. I had a seamstress make the three layer curtains.
There's rust rot on the front floor, dog legs, battery box (has a sheet metal piece currently) and on the back right corner (below rear light). All four of these areas should ultimately be replaced.
The chassis, rockers and jack points are good. The doors have spots on the bottom edge.
I've done a lot of Por-15 painting, combined with the No Weld method using spray foam and bondo.
All window seals have been replaced. The two folding horizontal louvered windows on the side replaced the original vertical folding windows, which were broken.
Concerning the bed, this bus has a long bench in the back. To make the bed, you would fold down the back side of the bench and then fold back the bed wood ply board on top of it and finish with a foam padding on top of all. It essentially was one large sized bed, with no furniture on either side. The foam padding and wood ply board were in bad shape and removed. I wanted to redo the bed set up, so I found a Z-bed for the bus and had plans on building a wood cabinet furniture on the driver side. I was going to sell the long bench since original VW full benches are sought after. To summarize, the bus comes with both, a full bench and a Z-bed.
A lot more has been done with the bus, I have full list of everything completed in an Excel document.
This bus is a survivor, there's still a lot more restoration work that needs to be done, rust, upholstery, inside front door panels, etc.
Sold as a collectible, but completely a daily driver.
I put a Slow Van sticker in back window since too many people drive too fast and tail gating, while flipping me off when they passed. Since the sticker, no one flips me off anymore. The young millennial generation have no experience with these older buses and how slow they are on the road. 55 mph max, otherwise you over heat the air cooled engine.
Also included with the sale, is a large collection of tools, fire extinguisher, jack stands, window covers for all windows, etc, purchased for the bus.
If interested, bus is located in Las Vegas, NV. I drove it from California.
Please contact me to get the full details before making purchase. Ideal candidate has 100% intention in continuing the restoration process for this VW bus.
