MGB-GT 1973/74 Mark III two door coupe (Chrome Bumper) NORESERVE AUCTION!
Fair condition MGB-GT, The GT’s make wonderful rally and/or vintagemotorsport race cars due to the hard top. The factory back racing GT’s won many high profilemotorsports races in the late 60’s TheBody style is by the world famous auto designer, Pininfarina. The MGB-GT isvery open and comfortable for tall or big folks, unlike a small Triumph. I havehad all models British cars, especially Triumphs along with AustinHealey’s(check out my auction for a 1960 Austin Healey sprite bugeye/frogeyewith new engine) MG’s, Lotus and even Land Rovers; and by far the MGB-GT is thenicest, easiest to drive and most carefree sports car to own. You can get everysingle part new and parts are cheap as they made MGB’s for almost 20 years andsales were still good when they stopped production in 1980. You can’t go wrongwith an MGB, absolutely the most bang for the buck! The parts supply industryfor British sports cars is huge, especially for MGB and MGB-GT. The MGC(straight six) and MGB-V8 are much rarer. Not only do B’s hold their value, butgo up in investment over time, especially chrome bumper cars (before 1974-1/2production, they switched to rubber bumpers from 1974-1/2 to 1980) you want achrome bumper for power and investment, later rubber bumper years had lots ofmid 1970’s EPA HP reduction losing about 20% or more of power from the 1798ccfour and are taller so they don’t handle as well. This 1973 GT up for sale is a proper chromebumper five bearing strong, no emission reduction MGB-GT.
So I was in the process of tuning this car into a Sebring rallycar for vintage sports car rally’s and/or hill climbs. However, with deaths inthe family, moving, eventually selling my storage garage and many years ofreal-estate projects to do in the future; I have to be honest and realize thatI won’t get to the MGB-GT for 3-5 years at least. So I am willing to part withit and let some other enthusiast looking for a winter project finish restoringher sooner rather than later. It deserves to be on the road, not tarped in agarage for the next five years. I havealready had the car several years and not been able to find much time to workon it.
Buyer is responsible for shipping costs and arrangements, even outside of the US.
Here is what I havedone:
· Repainted wheels and new caps
· Brand new tires ( no miles)
· Radiator repaired
· New plugs, cap and rotor
· New fan and fan belt
· Oil change
· Started to strip for bodywork and respray ( haveall parts)
· New battery (12 volt)
· New badges and other new parts
· Have used larger race sway bar
· Engine coolant flush and new fuel filter
Spark plug wires replaced
Carburetor cleaned
Runs well (see video)
Items that need to bedone:
· Car striped for body work and full paint respray
· Some rocker panel rust repair, a spot on therear arches and a small dent on the roof
· New front window, existing has a crack, newwindow is cheap $125?
· Full tune up and fuel lines and pump.
· Back drum brakes looked at and adjusted
· Interior sorted if you want it as a family OEMdaily street driver.
· Other common restoration parts, rubber sealsetc., as needed. I
This is a project car. What you see is what you get. Plentyof fun work to do on the car to make your own. It’s worth doing a decentrestoration. Low retail is 7K, Averageretail is 13K and High retail is 21K. This is a NO reserve auction with very low opening bid, so some luckybidder will get a heck of a deal. Engine ran strong with no knocks or bearingnoise and shifts good in all gears and floor pans are fine. That is why I purchased it, no rebuild neededfor a long time. Just cosmetic and some body work, minor parts and any upgradesyou may want like electric ignition, etc. Bring a trailer as it’s not road ready or check out U-Ship for shippingquote.
