1975 Bricklin SV-1
7248 miles - Comes with the original window sticker
The story that came with this car is it was held by the original dealer in Easton, PA and not sold until 1985. The first owner joined the Bricklin owners club October 1985 and the letter confirming this is with the car. I believe it was this owner that changed the radio.
There is at least one service record with the car and an oil change sticker on the door that confirm the car had about 1, 000 miles on it in 1985. After this the trail goes cold for many years. The state of PA doesn't release past ownership data and since the car was registered as an antique many years ago the state does not track the mileage.
The car appears again in 1999 less than 20 miles from the original dealership. The owner previous to me bought the car that year with 5, 000 miles showing. The new owner drove the car less than 2, 000 miles in the next 10 years and parked the car. In 2016, that owner decided to get the car out of storage and sell it. He had a complete service done inclduing all belts and hoses, rebuild of the brakes, carburetor rebuild, all fresh fluids and general inspection. The car ran very well by the time I purchased it and after putting some highway miles on it, it got even better.
The car is painted Safety orange, the fiberglass body shell with its plastic outer coating is generally good for a Bricklin but it is not without some flaws. These bodies are prone to warping and cracking of panels. There are several spots of previous crack repair work and they did a bad job of blending colors. These spots are on the tailgate, corner of the hood and the very top edge of the right front fender (see the photos). A skilled painter should be able to better blend a color and spray in these small repairs to make them look much better than they do now. There is one unrepaired chip in the finish on the back edge of the left front wheel opening (see photo).
Other than the previous repairs and the chip, the exterior is in real good condition. I had the car professionally detailed and it really came out looking great.
Somewhere in the car's history it got the front tires replaced, they are Summit Radials and still have the nibs on them so they can't have much milage on them. The rears are Goodrich radials and seem to be in real good shape.
The doors on these cars are gull wing style and they were originally hydraulic operated. The system was a modified Ford convertible top system. They were prone to leakage and failure when new with the stories of people being trapped in their cars being common. A former Bricklin engineer designed a pneumatic system to replace the troublesome hydraulics. The parts for this conversion can be readily found on eBay if you want to learn about it. This car has had the doors converted over to the pneumatic system and it works very well. If you were to do this conversion it would cost about $1800 for parts and labor.
The interior of this car is in very good condition. The seats still look like new. The carpets look great. I'm told these carpets are correct replacement type. The dash and rear area are very good. The headlights work properly, the AC blows cool but may need a charge.
Under the hood looks great. The Ford 351 runs very well, starts easily and performs reasonably. The engine compartment could use some detailing but is otherwise ready to go.
Overall, a legitimate low mileage Bricklin. Car 1653 of 2854 made. Comes with the original owners manual, factory service manual, factory parts book and as mentioned above, the original window sticker. The car is not perfect but it is above average and with some serious detailing this could actually be show worthy.
