Description:

1975 Pontiac Trans Am – No Reserve Auction!
Up for bid is a mostly all original 1975 Trans Am 400 4 bbl automatic in original Stellar Blue with blue interior. I will describe the vehicle using all knowledge I have about the car and will try to take good photos – sorry for the long description, but my intent is to give you as much accurate, complete information as I can. This is a strong running, great car with excellent bones and ready for the customization or restoration of your choice. The car is a time capsule – pretty much everything is original to the car. Following describes the car as it sits today:
I am the third owner - the car has spent its entire life in Kansas, being bought new at a Kansas dealership by a gentleman who traded in, of all cars, a 1968 GTO for it. It was bought about 6 years ago by his nephew, and then recently acquired by me. It has a clear Kansas title and no apparent major collision damage.
Drivetrain:
The drivetrain is all numbers matching and original to the car, including the Pontiac 400 engine, Turbo 350 transmission and rearend. I have had the entire drivetrain professionally gone through, thoroughly checked and fine tuned, and changed a few parts to make this a reliable, strong driver - something that can be driven while being restored.
The previous owner had the original engine professionally rebuilt by a local shop, boring .030 over with new flat top Speed Pro forged pistons, flat tappet high lift Isky cam and lifters, Scorpion roller rockers, stainless valves, balanced factory crankshaft, stock 6X heads, double roller timing chain, high flow oil pump, long tube headers, Edelbrock intake, and I decided to add a new (rebuilt Pontiac) JET Quadrajet 800 cfm carburetor. Note the dyno sheet photo, 310 hp and 411 ftlbs torque, and this is with the stock intake manifold and old Holley carb - I would guess several more hp with the new aluminum manifold and Quadrajet carb. Over $4500 was spent on the engine rebuild and components. The Turbo 350 transmission was also completely rebuilt by a local speed shop that specializes in race transmissions, with a mild shift kit, new torque converter and heavy duty components, and is connected to a completely rebuilt factory ratchet shifter (looks exactly like the stock shifter, but was an option – you can pull it to the right to shift manually). The differential has been resealed with a change out of gears to a new 3.42 Posi-trac setup from the factory 2.56 gearing. All of the rebuilt drivetrain components only have 3000 miles on them.
It also has a newer true dual exhaust from the headers back with glasspack mufflers, and brand new Pypes 2.5” correct Firebird Trans Am stainless tips are included but not installed. Other new parts installed include a gas tank, sending unit, fuel lines, aluminum radiator with dual electric fans, alternator and wiper motor. Shaker assembly is original and complete. This car is a street performance machine with tons of torque, with a fantastic lopey sound from the exhaust – this is exactly how a Trans Am should run! No whimpy 185 horsepower stock engine here…
Interior:
The interior is in good, mostly original condition. The headliner and carpet have been replaced at some point, and need replacement – a brand new headliner already mounted to factory-type card substrate is included, as are correct blue Deluxe front and rear seat covers (although the back seats are nearly perfect). The original dash pad is in great shape with only a couple of very small, barely noticeable 1” cracks. The driver’s side of the dash has a small rust area that is confined to the top of the dash. The original console is nearly perfect. As stated before, the shifter is a rebuilt rechromed and replated ratchet shifter and looks new, with a new knob and button. The top door panels are perfect, the plastic bottoms can be redyed, as well as the seat backs. The glass is good, the side glass does has a few scratches and the doors need new sweeps which are included. The gauges are brand new digital Intellitronix and are amazing – they are perfect drop in replacements for the stock gauges and were wired separately in case the new owner wants to change back to the factory gauges (The originals go with the car, they are faded and worked intermittently so I made the change). The original odometer shows about 03, 000 (103, 000) original miles, and according to the title this is verifiable. Turn signals work, as does the heater. The A/C system is complete but partially removed and it comes with the car (condition unknown). New CD/USB stereo with new 6X9 speakers in the rear deck (I didn’t do this upgrade).
Exterior:
This is where you can finish this car the way you really want it. The car is very straight and retains most of its factory paint, which is very tired and needs a respray. The rear bumper will be reusable, but the front rubber was 1/3 missing so I removed it as well as the lower valance, since it was broken and not repairable (all of the brackets and supports go with the car). The flares and front spoiler were also removed since they were not useable. All lights work. I would say the car has rust in the usual spots, but not overwhelming like many of this age – lower front fenders and front of the lower rear quarters all look patchable (or replaceable depending on how far you want to take the restoration). Frame rails are solid. Doors are solid (and hang / shut as they should due to a new hinge pin kit), as are the rockers, the area around the rear window and the cowl. The driver’s lower rear quarter has by far the worst rust, and it is into the trunk dropdown a bit – it looks as if a patch panel and drop panel would do the repair. The trunk is solid except for a couple pinhole-type areas that could be easily patched, and there is an area that appears to have some type of caulking on it (not sure if it is covering rust or spilled in the trunk). The area below the rear window is rust free, so I’m not sure what happened. The fiberglass nose is good, as are the lights, grills and stainless trim around the windshield and rear window. The hood appears to be nice and straight. A new complete weatherstrip kit is included (cowl, doors and trunk), as is a complete inside and outside door window sweeps kit.
Suspension:
Shocks are newer and tires are new Primewell PS860 white letter radials. Wheels are the original Rally II in good shape with one missing center cap. There is no spare tire, but the car comes with the original jack and base. Brakes are new all the way around, with new front rotors and turned rear drums, and the rear wheel cylinders and brake lines are new. Front suspension components could probably be replaced but they are usable as is.
This would make a perfect restoration project as much has already been done, or with not much effort a great daily driver, it just depends on how far you want to go – it is a running, driving car, so work on it as you enjoy it. I have the original intake and exhaust manifolds, all A/C components, gauges, clutch fan and all front bumper brackets that will go with the car, so if you wish to take it back to original, most everything is there and it would be a matching numbers car. Also please note all of new parts noted above are either installed or come with the car (about $1000 worth of uninstalled parts). These older Trans Ams are so hard to find unmolested!
