Description:

Here’s the thing about MG’s. At a minimum, you are considering buying a car that, depending on the year, is at least 36 years old, in this case, 40 years old. You can buy a MGB here on eBay to fix, like most of the MGB’s here that go for around six to eight thousand dollars, and believe me when I say they are junk, or
you can buy a MGB that has already had all the work it needs to be safe and dependable, not worry, just drive it and enjoy. That’s what this 1976 MGB is.
In short, everything on this car has either been cleaned, polished, painted or replaced. The interior and suspension, most all of the ignition and electrical is all new. I wanted a safe dependable beautiful MGB. That’s what this car is and it now runs, drives and handles like a MGB should and better than it did when new.
I did most of the work myself and had an experienced factory trained MGB mechanic with 45 years experience working on British steel do the work I wasn’t capable of or lacked the special tools to do.
Electrically, hydraulically, and mechanically this car is sound. Cosmetically it is beautiful as you can see from the pictures.
Engine:
The engine’s strong, no blow-by and gets about 18.5 MPG city, 25 MPG on the road. All seals and gaskets are tight. No oil leaks. No smoke. This engine does not burn oil. Oil pressure is excellent. Single Stromberg carburetor set-up replaced with a beautiful matched set of original S.U. HS-4 Carbs from a 1963 MGB, overhauled with new needles and balanced, K&N air filters and a Peco header and exhaust system. A performance ignition coil and a European spec electronic distributor to correct the timing curve at the high end completed the package. The car had roughly 80 bhp when new largely because of Federal Regulations and pollution equipment and the single Stromberg carburetor. It has more than that now. Twin chrome Monza exhaust chrome tip resonators were added for a nice finish and sound. New fuel pump.
Cooling System:
The radiator was re-cored and the entire cooling system flushed three times until clean. New thermostat, radiator cap and hoses. I have driven the car approximately 5, 000 miles since I’ve had it and have changed the oil, with Seafoam additive and a new filter, every 300 miles to thoroughly flush the crankcase and remove all deposits and sludge from the internal system. Oil pan dropped, cleaned, new gasket. Techron was used twice to remove internal carbon deposits. The oil lines are new. This engine runs cool.
Transmission:
Shifts smooth, soft yet sensitive clutch. New cylinder. No leaks.
Brakes:
New master cylinder and a complete replacement of the rear braking system components. Not just overhauled, replaced. All new parts. The front brakes are fine. New rear seals.
Suspension:
The front and rear suspensions were completely removed from the car, inspected, refurbished and overhauled including all new frame bushings, wheel bearings, tie-rods, king-pins, top and bottom pivot pins, pivot arms, new springs (front and rear) and more. The front and rear ends were then both aligned. A front anti sway bar was added.
Wheels and tires:

Four new tubeless Minilight aluminum alloy wheels and four new Michelin radials.
Note:
The net cost of the suspension work, parts and labor, wheels and tires alone was over $6000.00.
Electrical:

The alternator, fuse box, fuses and battery are new. All wiring was inspected, connections cleaned and repaired in a few places. The wiring is true to the original schematic. New lamps all around with new seals, halogen headlights added.
Exterior:
I bought it from the 2nd owner who had it for 22 years. The car was repainted about 12 years ago and still easily passes the ten foot rule. All the chrome is excellent, even the gauges (which were overhauled and are now much brighter), the glass is original, clear, no cracks, water tight. A factory original luggage rack was installed. It has been undercoated and shows no signs of rust. To my knowledge this vehicle has never been wrecked.
The top is in very good condition and the plastic is clear. The car comes with a tonneau cover, matching Autumn Leaf boot cover and frame, a car cover, original jack, new mallet.
Interior:
The interior has completely been replaced, seats and cushions, door panels, carpet. Walnut MG shift knob added with matching boot, matching arm rest. The radio is factory original AM/FM and works fine but the speakers could stand to be replaced.
So what does this car need? It does need a new turn signal switch, it sticks. It also needs new speakers as I said.
Personally, if I were to keep it, I’d next go into the engine and do a valve job at a minimum. Ideally, I’d add a performance upgrade with a roller rocker valve assembly, crossfire heads and high compression pistons and rings, and a slightly hotter street cam, switch to the new larger SU-6 carbs or a Weber Outlaw.
A 5-speed transmission would make all the difference in the world. Moss has an O/D conversion similar to factory or a Ford 5-speed can be installed (my 1st choice). You can also buy, a fully upgraded turbo-charged MGB engine for $10, 000.00 if you are so inclined and want a screaming fast MGB. I wouldn’t.
For me, 80 MPH in a car this size is plenty fast enough. LOL MG’s weren’t designed to be fast, they are not race cars. They were built to be country cruisers on the narrow back roads of Jolly Olde England. The emphasis was on steering and handling, not speed.
I paid $6, 000.00 for this car. I spent another $25, 000.00 restoring it.
I don’t expect to recover my investment. You never do on these things. It was a hobby, a labor of love to watch it come back to life and run like a MGB should.
Make no mistake, no warranty is given, expressed or implied. There is NO guarantee.
The car is being sold strictly AS IS
The Two-half Rule applies. Once you take possession of the car, if it breaks in half, you own both halves.
I have endeavored to furnish any prospective buyer as complete, accurate and honest a description of the car as possible. The car is extremely nice and very clean, but it is not perfect. No used car is and besides, she’s 40 years old!!
Any questions, feel free to ask.
