This 1979 MGB is an exceptionally solid barn find that has been off the road for many years. Originally a California car, (as noted on the title), it came to Tennessee in 2012 and has been off the road since shortly after its arrival. I have a clean TN title in hand. I bought it sight unseen as I needed the hardtop it came with, and I assumed it was essentially a parts car; that is not the case!
This B has been given a terrible paint job in white, over what was originally a Pageant Blue car with a tan interior, a very desirable combination. It's bad, peeling off in places, and rubbing off in others, and flat in the places it is sticking! But the car has perfect floors, inner sills, castle rails, dog legs, and inner fenders all the way around. The base of the right front fender is the only rust, please look closely at all the pictures. The trunk floor is also solid, as is the battery box. This is the sort of car you need to start with when considering a restoration.
When it came to me it had no fuel tank, I have added one that will need cleaning and painting. Once I removed the hardtop, it had no convertible top. I have added a top frame, it will need work, but it gets you started. It had also been stripped of lamp lenses, some chrome trip, mirrors, etc. so I also replaced those with good used items. Both top rails along the door were shot, so I added two better ones. The Rostyle wheels were a mess, and no tires held air, so I had the wheels media blasted and painted flat black. The tires are almost new, maybe 500 miles on them, high quality Yokohama's. If you don't want/like these wheels, bring your own when you collect it, and I will refund $300 of your purchase price.
The engine bay is very complete and original, down to the emissions equipment and original Zenith carb, which also suggests that the mileage maybe original. I pulled the plugs, lubricated the cylinders, and she turns over on the starter. I have made no further effort at getting her going, as the tank is not installed. The transmission is a standard 4 speed, no O/D.
The interior is usable as is, with decent seats and door panels. It will need a new carpet set and dash top cover. Overall this is a very honest old car that deserves a new start. I have many used MGB parts in stock, and if you see anything it needs that I have, I will be happy to include them at no additional cost. My starting bid includes free delivery within 100 miles of zip 37034. If you need delivery further than that, please ask in advance, we will agree on a price BEFORE you bid. As always, this is a no reserve auction. Thanks so much, cheers, Dave.
