Description:

1980 Triumph TR8
Very low miles @ 39, 000.
Likely one of the nicest TR8s you’re going to find. A true unmolested single owner since new survivor. This could easily be restored, but why would you when it's in the condition as is, and a car is original only once. Absolutely No rust. Has been stored inside it’s whole life. Currently registered in California and passed SMOG with flying colors. We will SMOG it for the next buyer as well if you want us to. All sheet metal and paint is original and in great shape. No replacements. The car is wearing the same interior and exterior it wore when it left the factory. The interior is in fantastic shape. No rips, no stories, it all functions like it should, even the clock. Nothing broken, As mentioned, I really doubt you’re going to find one nicer. The seats have had covers on them since day one.
Comes with all the original paperwork, window sticker, factory owner manuals, and factory service manual for the car, and lots of interesting receipts. Also has period correct magazines and other articles for the car.
We actually had this sold last year to a “collector”. He was actually a car flipper looking to make a quick buck. After an inspection from a very high end rover/triumph/jaguar shop, he backed out because the repair bill for the restoration repairs came in at 6K. Our jaw dropped too when we saw what they *thought* needed servicing. So, after we saw the repair list, we did everything we thought the car needed after being in storage for over a decade.
In the last year/100 miles this was replaced:
1)Transmission was rebuilt to rectify the failure prone plastic oil pump gear and second gear syncro. NOTE*Nothing was actually wrong with the box, this was simply a recommended repair. Done by “the Wedge shop” to the tune of $1200.
2)The leaking power steering rack was rebuilt, and a new power steering pump with matching stainless lines were installed at the same time. Rack was rebuilt by “the wedge shop”. No more leaks. $900 in parts
3)Horns were inop.- replaced
4)Tires were replaced- they weren’t actually worn, they were just 30 years old!
5)fuel pump, and gas gauge sending unit were replaced.
6)Oil pan gasket, and rear main seal were replaced when the transmission was out for updates.
7)Full electrical tune up with kit from the wedge shop. Namely, plugs, wires, cap and rotor.
8)All the shocks have been replaced with period correct cartridges.
9)Front strut bearings have been replaced and updated with actual roller bearing kit offered by the wedge shop
10)All front tie rod/ball joints have been replaced.
There are a few things that the car could use, but it no way, limits it’s ability to drive as is.
1)The a/c has a leak in it. It’s not bad, its been there since the day it was new...but it only holds the charge temporarily. All the equipment is there, we disconnected the belt and the plug to the compressor so it wouldn’t run dry by accident, but there is absolutely no reason it couldn’t be an easy fix with new o-rings and refridgerant. We will include some r-12 if you’d like, although the R-134 should be used if you want to make this a long term fix.
2)The carbs could use a rebuild. We bought the rebuild kit from woody, however couldn’t justify doing the rebuild when it runs great as is. The car is a little cold blooded when sitting for extended periods of time, which Woody at the wedge shop says is indicative of having a stuck choke from sitting so long, but it starts pretty easy cold, and perfectly when warm. Again, the kits are included, but we didn’t want to tackle the rebuild when the car runs great.
The car will come with boxes and boxes of brand new, NOS spares, etc. Brand new drive belts, o-rings, rebuild kits, hard parts etc.
The car also comes with every part that was taken off the car for replacement except the tires. Literally. Boxes and boxes of stuff. As mentioned, I really dont think you're going to find a more complete, collectable version of this car. Nothing on the car has been tampered with, and it's ready to go hit up the car shows today.
