Description:

I have a very nice 1983 Toyota Celica Supra MKII hatchback with an automatic transmission and 88, 400 original miles in very good and original condition. I’m planning to fully restore the car and sell it for top dollar, but have a few too many projects currently and will sell as-is to give someone else the pleasure of enjoying it as-is or tidying it up yourself. I bought the car recently in Georgia and am unsure of its prior history, but it’s in great shape, with a few issues in need of attention to make it show-quality as listed below and shown in the pictures.
Powered by Toyota’s legendary inline-6 cylinder, this particular year has the fuel-injected 2.8L 5MGE with the A43DE 4-speed automatic transmission. The car runs and shifts great, as it should with such low miles. The engine takes a bit longer than it should prior to starting sometimes, so it may need attention to the fuel system (filter, cold-start injector, or similar), but it always starts and once it’s running, it runs great with no obvious sounds or running/shifting issues. It also might just need to be driven a bit more. I plan to give it a basic tune-up and chase-down the delayed start issues if it doesn’t sell now, but it’s perfectly drivable as-is.
The body is very straight and in great overall condition. It looks great from 20-feet away and probably even close-up to most folks, but it has been painted with what I consider to be sub-standard prep-work. There’s a good bit of orange-peel, dust nibs, and chips that were not filled-in prior to painting. The paint is nice and glossy and looks good in a parking lot (I get lots of thumbs-up when driving it around town), but in my opinion, the car deserves a higher-end paint job. If you paint cars yourself or have a friend in the business, this is a perfect opportunity to add value and make your own profit (or keep it forever). The color is also a bit off (should be a bit more of a terra-cotta color than red), but nothing that couldn’t be easily sorted-out with a high-quality paint job. Some of the trim molding is a bit weathered as well and could use replacing as part of the paint job. Some folks will be happy with the paint the way it is . . . I’m just picky, especially about Supras. This is the main reason I think it might be better so sell as-is (since some folks will enjoy it as-is).
The exhaust has been replaced with a magnaflow high-flow stainless system, which is a bit louder than stock, so performance enthusiasts will like it and traditionalists who prefer all-original may opt to replace it with something closer to original, but it’s in fine shape and can be left as-is if preferred.
The tires are in great shape, as are the original wheels/rims.
The interior is in very good shape with only a few issues in need of attention. The front seats are sun-faded a bit on the sides (sun from the side window), but not in bad shape. The driver’s seat has a few loose stitches near the left bolster edge that a good upholstery shop could attend to with no material required. The fading could be ignored (it really looks sort of cool) or could be attended-to with some dye-work (not my specialty, but I planned to shop for someone who could do the work). The driver seat rear panel, which wraps around to the left side) has chrome trim-edging that could to be replaced (easy job). The right rear interior panel has some minor imperfections at the top from sun-damage (could use a bit of vinyl work or a replacement panel from a donor car). The console that houses the stereo is cracked at the base and will require either plastic-welding or a replacement panel from a donor vehicle. The stereo isn’t currently working and I haven’t investigated why, but it’s probably something relatively simple (a fuse, or hook-up wiring – maybe someone replaced the stereo and then put the original back in and damaged the console?). Overall, the interior is in impressive original condition and needs very little.
Value: NADA shows thevalue at $9150 (average) and $14, 450 (high). Note that these values do not take the extremely low original miles intoconsideration. I consider this car to bein much better than average condition and with much lower than average miles, so I think the buy it now price is quite fair. The reserve price is set lower than the buy-it-now price. There is a strong resurgence in demand for 80’sJapanese cars currently and the Supra is a performance icon. This is a rear-wheel drive car that can be enjoyedas-is or upgraded with a more powerful drivetrain and enjoyed as a “resto-mod, ”a drag-racer, or a drift-monster, in which case the current paint might beperfect J. The value of this car will continue to climb, so you can enjoy it as-is and restore it later with no fear of losing value.
Trade or trades considered, but cash preferred. If suggesting a trade, please clarify whether suggesting a straight/even trade or a trade plus cash. I like all sorts of things of value, but mostly prefer things that go (cars, trucks, boats (motorboats and sailboats), personal watercraft (jet ski’s), rv’s, travel trailers, campers, planes, motorcycles (Harleys and foreign), atv’s, tractors, skid-steers, etc. etc.).
I do have this car listed on a few local sites and reserve the right to cancel the auction if it sells via other means prior to auction-end.
I have purchased and sold vehicles long-distance and on ebay, so I understand your trepidation and am happy to take questions via ebay, phone, or in-person.
