Description:

Hello and thanks for looking. This description will be a bit lengthy, but I think the car deserves it. I have loaded over 200(!) pictures below this lengthy description and even have a somewhat overly-long video which only the serious buyer will be able to stand to watch-hah! so PLEASE allow time for them to load for a much more comprehensive collection of photos! The new owner will not need to do ANYTHING to this car, just fly in and drive it home. Every light, every option, ever feature, works properly to the best of my knowledge (and no, that isn't a mea-culpa, just stark honesty). I can have it prepared for transport or you can fly in and drive it home. ALSO, PLEASE feel free to message me with ANY questions that you may have!
This is the top-of-the-line Cartier Edition Town Car, available only in the two-tone silver over pewter scheme; the paint is 100% original and is holding up VERY well-there are some thin areas on the hood and trunk but as you can see, they are not noticeable except to someone who waxes this time-capsule by hand. The vinyl top is also in outstanding condition with no dry , cracked or stiff areas. It even still wears 1980's-era tint which is darker towards the top (not faded, but intentionally mirrored towards the top of the windows); also, check out the cool vintage stainless steel vent-shades :). The car has every available option EXCEPT the premium wire wheels and dual exhaust (which I thought were standard on the Signature trim level and above, but apparently, was not!). Even the factory-correct Cartier embroidered floor mats are present and in perfect condition. Yes, it has the factory sunroof, rare factory CD, Digital Cluster, electrochromic auto-dimming rear-view mirror, JBL Premium Sound, door auto-lock, power trunk pull-down and yes, even the rarely ordered automatic load leveling system (works perfectly). Cruise, Autolamp, all power windows, lock and seats all operate properly. There is NOTHING on this car that does NOT work as designed...ah, the ONLY exception is the auto-dimming headlights which seem to dim themselves at inappropriate times (I just keep it off and it rarely is even activated in the city where I live). It is NOT a perfect car and it DOES have small imperfections, but you have to REALLY look hard to find them and it is likely that only YOU, the new owner will know what these flaws are (or even where they are!). On an interesting note, I noticed that the door jamb had an ASC sticker on it, which was a very successful aftermarket sunroof company in the 1980's and 90's (now defunct) so I was curious about the moonroof, as it appeared to be factory in every way to me. I learned the answer after while searching for a new weatherstrip seal for the roof from an older gentleman who bought up all of ASC's inventory: according to him, Ford experimented with transporting truckloads of these Lincolns to an ASC location who would then install all the moonroofs using 100% Ford products...this didn't make sense to me but he explained that SOMEHOW it was cost-effective for Ford to do it this way (go figure). I had my doubts but after removing the old seal I quickly saw that the roof opening was INDEED a factory-crimped and assembly-line stamped affair, not a cutout like aftermarket roofs are...ALL of the parts, right down to the switch, the OEM headliner which is preformed and the plug/motor are all 100% Genuine Ford products...I guess I learned something new.
I bought from a gentleman who wanted to simply enjoy the car, which he did for about a year or so give or take a few months. HE bought it from the original owners, one of which I was able to speak to on the phone shortly after purchasing the car . According to her, her husband (who is now deceased) ordered the Town Car in 1989, drove on long-distance sales calls and then retired. In retirement, they stored the car in Ohio during the winter and summered in Florida. The was ONLY driven during the summers in Ohio and was otherwise kept in a climate controlled garage during all the winter months when they were in Florida. Judging by the condition of the car (ZERO rust anywhere on the undercarriage), I have no doubt this car slumbered all winter long in storage just as she relayed to me.
I have owned it for almost two years and have thoroughly enjoyed fixing any little thing that caught my eye, washer it and most of all, enjoying it. I sold a Continental with 15, 000 original miles in order to purchase this car because I wanted to ENJOY a car-the Connie was beautiful but needed NOTHING and frankly, was too perfect to actually enjoy (my daughter opened a door on another car once in it and at that instant I realized that I needed something a little less...able to make me gasp at the mere possibility of a flaw becoming actualized). When this car arrived, I immediately started having fun with it; before it had even arrived, a new EGR valve, calipers and rotors, the pesky redesigned TV cable grommet (the factory ones were made of nylon and would fail unexpectedly causing immediate and severe transmission damage) , new calipers and pads, Motorcraft wires and plugs, radiator cap, WOT relay, NOS keys, ALL hoses (to include the short troublesome and often overlooked hose UNDER the intake), Intake manifold Gasket and all vacuum hoses, K&N Air Filter, New Sylvania Silverstar headlights (4), Bosch Water Pump, New Drums, Pads, Kits, Wheel Cylinders, tie rod adjusting sleeves and outer tie rods, and new air-assisted rear shocks and front shocks (yes, the rear air suspension lines were also replaced and properly hooked up to the air suspension compressor under the hood). As soon as it arrived, I dove in and started playing! I had bought just about everything I could imagine a car of this age with this many miles would need to have replaced. I have to say...it was fun getting dirty and bringing the old gal back to life. In ALL cases, OEM Ford/Motorcraft parts were used if available and only QUALITY aftermarket (such as AC Delco or Bosch, etc) were used if OEM was not attainable.
After having installed all that, the OEM A/C system couldn't quite overcome the Texas heat and so I replaced the entire system: hoses, sensors and all, right down to the condenser in front of the radiator. Only one thing to say: the air is COLD, colder than my wife's 2013 Navigator's air. It needed tires and so I was able to locate a set of four Whitewall Bridgestone Turanzas (very comfortable tires) and had the original turbines refinished. I bought several silly things like new moonroof switch, new grille frame, headlight bezels, NOS front turn signal lenses, etc, etc...all these were for the sake of buying new toys than necessity. I replaced the driver's window motor and left rear motor-all other work just fine, although I have been wanting to replace the RH rear motor because it is a little noisy. The radio and CD player were rebuilt professionally and both work flawlessly (the JBL amp in the trunk was also rebuilt)-the sound system rebuild was more preventative than anything else, but I knew it was only a matter of time before the radio quit, as the display was weak. I also replaced the rear factory speakers with very nice-sounding aftermarket 6X9s (I think they were Pioneer or Bose?) They are hidden beneath the original covers so you can't see them anyways. To make a long story short, the car was maintained to DRIVE and ENJOY...I have taken this car on a few 900-mile trips and drive it around town about 2-3 times a month. .I hope the new owner will continue the trend...
The video is below followed by over 200 pictures..please enjoy! (Forgive the George Michael CD, it was the only one I had on-hand).
