For Sale is my 1991 Ferrari 348 ts.
The car is a mild project car and would be perfect for a mechanically inclined person as there are a couple of easy needs this car has.
First off, the car has been repainted. . . it was rosso corsa (ferrari red) but has been repainted a green similar to the green on the italian flag. I happen to really like the color. The paint job is a good 8.5 to 9 in condition. It was a high quality respray when it was done and probably cost $8 - $10k. There are some chips and a small section low in the front bumper where there was peeling. A good detailing and it would be very presentable.
Secondly, the major issue with the car is that the exhaust has been removed and a straight pipe exhaust is running from the headers though the catalytic converters and straight out the tailpipes. It sounds like an F1 car but is not subtle and refined. This is driving the reason I am selling the car. It will not pass smog in the state of California. California has the strictest smog laws in the nation. I cannot register it and was pulled over for driving it without a registration. (The car is not exactly subtle). The plan would be to redo the cats, switch out the O2 sensors and put a performance exhaust in the car. There are lots of OEM exhausts on ebay for $500, a nice performance exhaust runs $2 - $3K. Aftermarket 02 sensors are cheap and the cats can be rebuilt anywhere other than California for a couple hundred dollars. In many states, cars over 25 years old are smog exempt so you could run it as is.
Because of this, the car is not for sale in California. Anybody from California must realize that I will only sell this car as a parts car and will not incur the expense to get the car to pass smog.
The car needs a number of other minor things. The headlights automatically turn on because the headlight stalk has been damaged. It just requires swapping out the part. There is a seam that is blown on the driver's seat bottom. I was quoted $400 to fix it by a trimmer. One of the foglight lenses is cracked. The car gets two Check engine codes. One is for the O2 sensor (Lambda sensor) and the other is an error on the coolant temperature sensor. This is an error on the sensor as the car maintains both oil and coolant temperature very well. The clutch feels like its slipping a little but it was just re manufactured about 1.5 years ago. My mechanic believes it could be some fluid on the clutch. A quality rebuild on the clutch is about $1500.
One thing that might show up is an odometer discrepancy. I have already resolved this with CarFax and it has been removed. I have also contacted Experian and they are resolving it is well. Both services have been good to work with. The car has a clean title. The car has a lot of good things going for it. #1 The previous owner replaced the timing belts, hoses and resurfaced the clutch about 1.5 years ago. The body is very straight and the car fires right up. I've had to drive it about 100 miles in traffic and didn't have any issues with oil, coolant, or engine performance. The values of these cars are climbing significantly. Driver condition cars go for $60-80K and the best cars are topping the $100K mark. I'm selling the car with an opening bid of what the car would sell for in parts and this is a running, driving car.
This is a project car. . . it needs some love but would be a great investment for somebody that can tinker with it over time. The car is being sold AS-IS, Where-Is with no Warranty either express nor implied.
