This 1998 Lotus Esprit V8 is an amazing car. Prior to owning this car I drove a 1983 Esprit Turbo, which I sold on BAT in order to buy this car. When I received it I wanted to know everything about it and so set about removing the engine and gearbox.
Engine
- The timing belts were changed to the Gates blue belts, water pump replaced, spark plugs and wires replaced, alternator and starter rebuilt, injectors flow check (found one bad secondary), turbos sent to G-Pop Shop to rebuild and upgraded to T-28 spec, K&N air filters, plus other miscellaneous items.
Gearbox
- the gearbox was sent to my Czechoslovakia transmission expert for a full rebuild. The input shaft and synchros (Lotus) were replaced along with all the needed gaskets and seals.
Clutch-
The clutch was in good shape (previously replaced) as was the TOB. The clutch slave was replaced with a new unit.
Brakes
- the brake master was inspected, tested and rebuilt. The flexible brake lines were upgraded to stainless lines.
Suspension
- the shocks are PROTECH and are ride height adjustable and have a single valve adjuster. The ride quality is great! Most of of the suspension bushings have been upgraded with urethane by the previous owner.
Exhaust
- it has an upgraded center exhaust and sounds great when you fire it up and it is just right in the cabin at freeway speed.
Wheels
- the car has the ultra rare OZ Nova wheels which are IMHO the best looking wheel ever put on the V8. New Sumitomo tires installed.
Exterior
- the car was treated to a professional detailing and ProCar ceramic paint protection giving it an incredible shine.
Interior-
the interior is in great shape for is age and A/C works great! The bulbous stock Trans Am steering wheel has been replaced with a Lotus Elise unit. The wheel is much more attractive and gives you the much needed leg room in getting in and out. The drivers seat shows the typical wearing of the dye on the seat bolster but can be easily corrected.
Sunroof
- Comes with glass top that be removed.
Performance
- the car runs amazing and has lots of low end grunt.
When it was all done a good friend really wanted to buy it and in his own words said, “I always wanted an Esprit but I never knew of anyone who would work on them”. I agreed to sell it (reluctantly) and since that time I have purchased a 1999 and 2004. Of the three this car is by far the best in performance. The reason my friend is selling it is his ultra uber BMW M1 has finally been finished and the Esprit has been spending more time as a garage queen.
