Listing my 1999 996 6 spd w/ almost 67.5K miles. This beauty has the robust dual row 1999 3.4L engine with the LN Engineering IMS ceramic bearing replacement. The RMS has also been replaced as well as various other known wear parts (AOS, VarioCam chain tensioner guides, seals, rad hoses, etc.) It runs great and does not leak a drip.
The car was born a C4, but the transmission had begun popping out of 2nd and subsequently the syncro was ground. I decided to convert to a C2 - had GBox in Boulder build up a C2 trans including new pinion bearing, 2nd gear detent, etc. (Viscous coupler was removed as were axles. C4 wheel carriers remain). Now shifts great and feels a little more nimble (I had a 996 C2 in the past and prefer them to C4).
Aesthetically, the car is in great shape. Black is generally an unforgiving color - this one still shows very well. A couple dings and knicks here and there, to be expected with a car of this age and mileage. Small cracks in taillights (photographed). The front bumper was resprayed - there are now some tiny cracks showing from the occasional bottom out (photographed). The car has a front splitter, license plate holder delete, headlight washer delete, mesh grill, and in the rear - bumperette delete (euro style w flat black vinyl wrap in license plate surround). Wheels are original BBS 18's powder coated black - they look great.
The interior shows some wear on the driver's seat bolster. It would come back to life with a redye if you so desire. Otherwise a great example of Savannah Beige interior w/ graphite grey trim.
Lots of options and everything works on the car - cold A/C, PSM, alarm, 8 way power/heated seats, Litronic headlights, etc.
The suspension is making a couple noises that will need to be addressed in the not so distant future. I had it in the shop for an A/C recharge (they found a leaky valve) this summer and he suggested they are all like that however I suspect the driver's strut mount is on the outs. It clunks a little over bumps and there is a minor vibration around 85. I was planning to upgrade the struts w HD Bilsteins, but will offer as is considering next owner might have a preference. It currently has H&R lowering springs + original springs included.
Generally, it's a great running/driving/looking car. It is not perfect - 17 years old w almost 67.5K - but it has lots of life left. The drivetrain is very strong in this car, and with a suspension refresh, the car will be back at it's peak.
I've had it 3 years and have had a blast with it. My family continues to grow and my available time to drive this beauty is even more limited now. Time to let it go. Reserve is low.
