2003 A4 Cabrio Project Driver Running and Driveable. NO NYS Buyers
Our children and Main Line Auto purchased this car at auction over the summer. It is one of the mistakes Could be a great fun car, but going to cost us too much money. Excellent for a project for a DYI guy in his garage. Nothing serious wrong with it.
Here is what we have done: We replace the battery and the Alternator. Here is what is good: underneath is excellent, tires are excellent brakes are excellent. Car runs and drives.
Here are the issues:
1.Top will not function and someone has removed the manual operation tool from the fuse enclosure. This tool is available on ebay for around 150. Rear glass panel on convertible is separated from the top. There are companies who can repair this. 2. Low oil light is on, Oil is full, we have driven the car a few hundred miles. The oil pan sensor needs to be replaced. 3. The car had no codes when purchased but the battery was dead, we have never driven it enought to have any codes return. 4. When I went to start it the other day it would not start. Rapped on the Starter and it started. Likely will need a starter. The car has been sitting for 8 months5. Hood would not open, we watched the vids and just could not get the latch to release. It was totally frozen. We cut a hole in the hood to get to the latch. See pics, Can be repaired or replacement hood is fairly reasonable. 150-2006. Hood latch and cable will need to be replaced. 7. Paint on the car is good. Rear bumper needs a repaint 8. Interior of the car is rough, Rear seat bottom needs replacement, Center console cap needs replacement and glove box needs a hinge kit. Needs replacement for the hazard light assy, cup holder and change tray. Radio does not work, not sure why.
That's about what we know. Yes, in my opinion, sans the starter issue, you could drive this car home. My suggestion is a trailer but that is just erring on the side of caution.
I think a reasonable estimate for a DYIer to make the car a decent driver is 2500. Car has low miles and is pretty darned sharp dressed in red.

(We will clearly post this in the posting title when applicable) NY requires an emissions inspection as part of a vehicle sale. Often cars we list here will either not be of the exceptional quality that Main Line insists upon for its retail lot or the vehicle will have enough wrong that it does not warrant the expenditure to bring it to as new condition. It doesn't mean the car is bad, it just means that it just isn't for us. It might very well be for you. Most often these cars will sell at thousands under retail.
Fairly often we will list our vehicles without reserve This doesn't mean that we start them at a dollar, we start them at a price with think is bottom of the barrel and go from there. When we list we also put a buy it now price We do this for those who want the vehicle and don't want to take the chance of being outbid at the end. The BIN price goes away after the 1st bid. The first bidder on a no reserve auction is the winner unless he or she is out bid. After the first bid, the vehicle will sell.
We will always attempt to describe our vehicles to the best of our ability. We will clearly state if we believe that you can drive it away or if you should have it shipped or pick it up on your trailer.
Clearly, with most vehicles we sell we will have only a passing knowledge of their history both from a collision history or a repair history. We look them over carefully, we drive them when we are able to and try to give you a fair assessment of condition. Be always aware though that your opinion of condition and our opinion may differ. We ask in the strongest terms that you come and look at the car before you decide to bid. If not please message and ask questions. We will always take the time to discuss the vehicle and what we know and we will be honest and let you know what we don't. At the end of the day, if you purchase from us, we want you happy with your purchase. This only makes sense. All Vehicles are sold as is where is As is will apply unless we have erred in our description. If we say it runs and drives, then you have every right to get a refund if it doesn't. If we say it needs a starter, but runs, then you have to put a starter in it to say we didn't describe it correctly. If we say it run, we know it runs because we had it running.
Where is means that you ship it or pick it up. Sometimes we will offer to deliver it for a price. Always we will help your shipper load and assist any way we can. PLEASE ship during business hours.
