One
owner (over 50), 99K miles, garaged, non-smoker, no accidents, regularly serviced, clean CarFax , purchased locally new at Horne Ford/Mercury in the Fall of 2003, 15 years ago. The 2004 Marauder, like the regular Grand
Marquis, was the first year to also include driver and passenger-side head
air-bags and why we waited until this next model year. The Owner guide is in
the glove compartment and all service documentation from Horne Ford/Mercury, Firestone, and Reichenbach Ford (all here in Florence SC) is present including
the Shop Manual CD, original sales brochure, and the Black Marauder Leather
Men’s jacket provided that year. Even the sun visor stickers are still present! The
tires have 15, 000 miles on them with plenty of tread, and the battery is two
years old. About the time the tires were
changed within the last two years the car also received a fuel system flush, and new spark plugs. In 2015 the belt and
pulleys were replaced, in 2016 the transmission selector switch was replaced, and in 2017 a new water pump was installed. The original Marauder floor mats
have always been covered by aftermarket mats and the optional $200 Ford trunk
insert is present. Only 950 Marauders
were factory silver finish which averages out to 20 per state. Given South Carolina is smaller than most
states, this car is one of only a handful of silver Marauders registered in
South Carolina and after 15 years, could be the only one left. The starting auction price will be reduced by $300-$500 weekly until sold. If the noted repairs below are performed in a month or so, auction will restarted $1000 over last price. The CarFax report is at the end of the Google Photo Share Album.
The
defects noted are: 1) Parking lot ding left
front fender should come out with massage from inside (see picture); 2)
Front bumper needs repainting from garage scratches and dings (see pictures). Local body shop is behind due to snow/ice
related repairs so can not fix the bumper and ding at $800 for another month.
3) The center console was cracked and epoxied together between the cup holders
and the same console lid catch was also repaired and it does not click into
place and the repair hardly noticeable, 4) Headlight lenses need fine scratches
polished out but are not cloudy. The major collection of fine parking lot scratches is on the right rear bumper but this one as well as other tiny ones, tiny chips on hood, few tiny chips on door edges are all on the Google Photo list in close-up detail. Close ups of rims also show tiny scratches from tire changing.
In addition to the few pictures allowed by Ebay, I have uploaded many on Google Photos. Please email me for this link as Ebay no longer allows such links within any sale information; another inconvenience beyond my control!

For Ford folks wanting something
like the Impala SS, the 2004 Mercury Marauder was the answer. A big, rear-wheel-drive
sedan with Ford's potent Cobra V8, tight handling, fat tires, and big
brakes, the Marauder was a short-lived experiment; not many were made during the 2003 and 2004 model years. Most, but not, all Marauders
were black. Silver was a 2004 only addition and kept the profile resembling
police cruisers. Unique front and rear bumpers, blacked-out grille, special
headlights and fog lights, and a bare minimum of chrome trim give the Marauder
a unique look beyond the average “Grand Marq”. Now 15 years old, it is nevertheless
a one owner car. The silver paint is still glossy and shows virtually zero
signs of use aside from the usual tiny chips that come from being driven (see
all the close-up pictures). They only made 997 in silver and there can't
be many nicer than this. Full-sized
luxury was standard with charcoal leather bucket seats and a console with
shifter. The upholstery and interior pieces remain in excellent condition as
seen in the pictures. Marauders came loaded--power
windows/locks/seats/pedals and climate and cruise control. White-faced dash gauges
are standard with unique auxiliary gauges in the front of the center console. The
sound system is original and the trunk is huge. The Marauder used the Mustang
Cobra's 32-valve DOHC 4.6 liter V8 engine with automatic overdrive
transmission. The 302 horsepower combination was potent, particularly at
highway speeds. Special calibrations helped with low-end torque for the heavier
sedan and it still purrs at speed. Everything is stock, so no worries about
racing or abuse. Air suspension was firmed up for the Marauder with four disc
brakes. The dual exhaust system appears stainless with polished tips for
appearance. With shiny 18-inch wheels and 255/55/18 rear performance
radials, it rides and handles like a two-ton sports car (the front and rear stock
tires are different sizes and cannot be switched). The South Carolina Troopers, using the Crown Victoria version of the common sedan platform, quipped that these vehicles need a new engine at 200, 000 miles and a new car at 400, 000 miles.
A $1000 PayPal deposit is required on auction win with the remainder paid as cash or cashier's check on pick-up. Ask questions before bidding. All the defects are as noted, described, and pictured. No further price negotiations on pickup and nit-picking and asking for discounts later is not expected. Buyer to pick up or arrange for transportation directly from my residence. Florence is about half-way between NYC and Miami on I-95 and is the eastern termination of I-20 so interstate access is easy. We are about one hour from Myrtle Beach to give you driving estimates. Florence also has an airport with connections to Charlotte, NC and the Amtrak Silver service stops here as well.

“Orig owner guide/brochures, service receipts, Shop Manual CD, & Marauder Leather jacket. Tires have 15K miles; battery 2 yo. Fuel system flush & spark plugs with tires. Repairs: 2015 belt/pulleys, 2016 transmission selector switch, 2017 water pump. Marauder floor mats always covered by aftermarkets. Optional $200 Merc trunk insert. Only 950 Marauders factory silver finish, about 20/state. Given size of SC, this car must be one of only handful registered in “easy winters” SC. After 15 years, may be only one left? Defects are: 1)Dent top left front fender (pics); 2)Front bumper needs repaint from garage scratches/dings (pics; local body shop a month behind so cannot get bumper/dent fixed [$800] for another month). 3)Center console cracked/epoxy repair between cup holders & console. 4)Console lid catch repaired (does not engage; hardly noticeable). 5)Headlight lenses needs fine scratches polished but are not cloudy.” |
