The great stuff:
And now comes a 2008 Cabriolet Passion Smart Car with ~31078 miles on it. I bought this car brand new in 2008 from an attorney in New Jersey (with less than 10 miles on it) that bought two from the factory when they first arrived in the US. I trailered it back to my home town (~1800 lbs), and discovered I was the 2nd one to own one in Central Pa. This car has been garage kept for the last 8 years, and is in near perfect condition. I have all service records and I believe all oil changes since day The only shop to work on it was the Mercedes/Smart Car dealership in Pittsburgh a 3 hour 4 lane 95% highway trip one way.
The body is also in near perfect shape with no rust, of course since its plastic, and the color can be changed within 2 hours by buying different panels to replace the white stock panels. The convertible roof is perfect, doesn’t leak and moves with ease and speed. I’ve gone over the whole car from top to bottom and its clean inside and out and has a fresh coat of clear coat polish on it. (The aluminum wheels are also near perfect, but could use a final touch up to make them showroom eligible) (I hate cleaning wheels, but they’re as clean as I could get them with out spending another hour or so detailing them) The seats could use a shampooing, but all obvious dirt has been vacuumed and brushed off. Mechanically the car is sound so far as I know, but am not a mechanic. With this low of mileage, I’d trust nothing is wrong with it, and anticipate years of fun dependable driving.
The fun stuff: This car still turns heads, as there aren’t a lot of them around, so if you’re not one for attention, this car is not for you. Even after 8 years, I still have people stop me and ask if its electric and what kind of mileage it gets (which is about 40 by the way). This car is super fun to drive, and makes people smile when you drive by them with 3 cylinders kicking it!. It’s got a lot of pep, very responsive, super easy to park at about 10' in length in a 20' parking stall, and I got my first ticket in years doing 55 in a 35 and not even realizing it. (I think they pulled me over just to check the car out, and had to justify their traffic stop) I’ve driven this car on the highways next to big rigs, and it holds its own. I have no idea what the 0-60 time is, but had no issues passing slower cars on the 4 lane @ 75. Probably not a good car for the winters with 2' of snow, (rear wheel drive) but it will get you back and forth to work capping out at 8 gallons for a couple of weeks at about 300+ miles per tank even around town. If you’re worried about crashing it. Don’t look at the Youtube videos, they’re very exaggerated, and mostly untrue. I certainly wouldn’t drive it into a brick wall doing 75 and expect to survive any accident let alone in a Smart car as some video’s show!. It’s a very solid vehicle well made in Italy, and even has a storage section behind the seats for a half dozen bags of groceries or so accessible by a lift up rear window. All original owners manual are also included.
Disclosure stuff: Front bumper has a small, what feels to be ~2 scratch near the lower white section.not visible to the naked eye or camera for that matter (No idea how that happened), and there is a small chip on the left side black section of the window framing (see picture) (stone from a gravel truck dropped it, and refused to have it fixed because I didn’t get the time/date/vehicle number and License plate of the truck. (Didn’t check the price on a replacement piece, but to me it was insignificant) I let my daughter drive it once, when her car was in the shop, and it came back with a small burn hole in the passenger seat less than the size of a dime in the corner of the seat (must have been a passenger smoking in my Smartie) needless to say I was very unhappy and she’s not driven it since. It also has what looks like discoloration of the dash covering on top passenger side in front of the drivers seat, again no idea about that either, but blame the daughter for that to. Probably a couple of hundred to get it replaced if you want it PERFECT! I’d look in a junk yard or online for the part before I’d order it from the dealership with 200+% markup.. I just replaced the rear tires, and it will probably need a new set on front in the next 5-10K or so I’d guess. (Back tires wear out quicker BTW) The battery is 8 years old, but still holds a good charge if its run regularly. (may need short term replacement, but have had no problems when I drive it regularly) Have not driven it in “snow or snow slush”, with salt on the PA roads, so the underside should be next to new! I check the fluids regularly, and will check them again before I let the car go. I had to take it into the dealership once because the sliding roof came off the tracks, )~$100 if I remember right) so I’d recommend you do not open it up all the way to the bottom position, as the dealer said that is fairly common with them. (There’s two down positions, and the 2nd down push of the button may cause the issue that I’ve heard only the dealer can fix)(So be forewarned) The complete, new parts, dealership with 90 day warranty fix was estimated at $1000. No way! (Should have happened when it was under warranty) Have to check the maintenance records on the brakes, but passed the last inspection with no notes added) less than 100 miles ago in August (see Pic)
Bottom line: I’ve had at least two offers from local dealerships for $4, 500 for this car and passed, because when I checked NADA $4687(Very good) to (Excellent) $5037 condition from a private party. Dealers are asking $5502 to $7445 for a similar qualify of vehicle. (Suggested retail price of $6674) It needs no servicing, and overall is in excellent condition from my perspective, although two issues are in the back of my mind! I will not sell to a dealer for under $5500, to steal $2000 from me, although I understand you have to make a living to, sorry bout that! My reserve is $4900, starting at $4700. Will take $5000 to close out the auction early!
This would make a great car for trips around town, a college kid driving back and forth to class, or for a kids first car. Cheap/basic/reliable transportation that’s super fun do to drive, and their friends will love! Just taking up space in my fleet now! (own 4 cars total) Happy Bidding and Good Luck! It's also listed locally, so don't set on your hands, or it may be gone! First come first serve! AS IS, not a dealer so I can't offer a warranty! I've sold 2 vehicles over the years on Ebay for over $6000, with no complaints, so take it for what its worth. I'm Hiding NOTHING!
Payment and pickup required within 5 days of close of auction by CASH/Cashiers Check or Bank Check! Negative feedback and notes given to non paying bidders, so don't waste anyone's time here, this is REAL!. NO TRADES, negotiations or any other BS. This is the PRICE! If you're a PA Resident, I may be able to work with you a little with the sales tax bite.
Location, Central PA
