Fully restored and set up as one of the most iconic sport
coupes of the late 60’s and 70’s. The
Alfa was completely glass beaded inside and out and refinished in Alfa Dark
Orca Yellow. I found the car in the very
dry Palm Springs area a couple years ago. It had been off the road since 1987 when its prior owner parked it. It was a great find because of the climate
did not allow it to rust anywhere. It
was a very straight car and as solid as the day it was new. I had looked at several Alfa’s before I
chose this one for my project. After
the car arrived in Portland I proceeded to take the car totally apart and
inventory and inspect every part and put together my plan for the best GTV that
I could build. My plan was to build an
Alfa that would be used in the Monte Shelton Rally in the summer of 2015 and
driven by my wife and here sister. It
was important to me to have a mild GTA look and as much performance that would
be comfortable for regular roads. The
Engine was pulled out and completely taken apart and blueprinted. The prior owner had the head done by Spruell
before it was parked. I had found
receipts and part lists in the glove box when I took it apart. I had new valves, springs and followers
installed. Along with Performance
Camshafts form Centerline, 11.0 and 10.5 for more performance and to take
advantage of the better flowing cylinder head. It had high compression pistons in in. But I replaced them with more modern Motronic 2.0 piston and
cylinders. The crank was polished and
clean, all new bearings, water pump, and completely detailed and properly
sealed up. It is a strong running
engine with about 1000 miles on it since finished. When I got the car it had the stock Spica
injection on it. I love the sound and
performance of the side draft Weber carburetors, so I fitted a new kit from
Redline. The car came with a
performance header that I had ceramic coated, and I installed a Centerline
Stinger exhaust. It sounds great and is
not too loud. All the suspension was
cleaned painted and upgraded. I went
with Centerline performance springs and Bilstein Sport shocks on all four
corners. Every piece of hardware on the
car was cleaned and prepped so I could yellow zinc coat it all. Every bolt was done on the car, plus
appropriate suspension components. I
also when with the performance brake package from Centerline with vented wider
rotors. The brake calipers were
restored, re-sealed and yellow zinc coated, plus all new lines and stainless
steel end lines. Every wheel bearing
and seal was also replaced. I installed
new poly bushings everywhere. I replaced
the rear trunion bushings as well. The
rear diff was taken apart, new bearings and inspected. In 1974 the car comes factory with a LSD
unit. I also had the driveline and all
u-joints replaced The Fuel system was completely replaced with everything
including fuel tank (larger volume) and lines. I love the look of the GTA 15” wheels from Classic Alfa. Also new Bridgestone RE11 rubber. When the body was at paint it was epoxy primed and POR-15 treated on the
inside to protect it for the rest of its life. The paint job is fully show quality and done at a large expense. Every body seal was replaced, most of which
came from Classic Alfa in the UK. I
found after purchasing ones from Centerline, that the Classic Alfa seals were
much better fitting. I also replace
both window regulators. All the
stainless trim and bumpers were sent out to be polished prior to being
installed. I like the look of the stock
bumpers, and they are in great condition. I bought a new chrome grill and all new emblems for the car. The interior is all-new. I did take some liberty with the
interior. The seats are pleated with the
same material style as the 69’ flying buttress seats for a better look. I also had the cracked dash covered in
Alcantera for a sporty Italian look. All the gauges work proper. All the wood on the dash is new. I kept the Alfa original Personal steering
wheel and added a matching Nardi Wood shift knob. The entire interior was replaced including
carpets door cards, rear panels, and headliner.
This is truly a full restoration and hundreds of hours spent
on it. It was tuned and final set up by Nasko’s
Imports, one of the best Alfa guys in the US. It does come with original Jack, and owners manual. It has a Minilite Mag
wheel in for the spare. It ran in the Rally and my wife had a great
time, but time to move on to the next project. This car handles like nothing else, and the sound is pure Italian
excitement. This car gets lots of
attention, and is so unique in the Dark Okra color.
