Selling a beautiful 1967 Alfa Romeo Duetto Spider 1600. This is more than a car, it is a work of art. The Italians were visionaries. Attractive lines, excellent power, speed and handling; aggressive driving experience, yet comfortable for the driver and passenger. Among all, this car embodies pure class. After owning and driving many different European sports cars, I have found it is an absolute joy driving an Alfa, but driving a Duetto, or Boat tail (as called here, AKA Osso di seppia on the other side of the pong...) is an exhilarating experience. I recently purchased the car from the estate of an Alfa Romeo collector, who not only had about 7 or 8 alfas, including a '59 & '60 Giulietta, which he raced. In fact he was also a racing instructor at a local racing school in Massachusetts. I believe that this car only had three owners, and this car appears to be 100 % correct, with the exception of an aftermarket radio. I believe it is a Rosso Alfa car, no color changes, original 1600 engine with twin Webers 40s, all correct. I believe that the car has only been painted one time. The interior is original and there is some wear on the seats, (note that the passenger seat has some rips), carpers are newer, new soft top, newer michelin tires on the original Alfa steel rims and original hubcaps (which are in great shape-see pictures), Ansa exhaust (single tip), mechanically this car runs and drives quite well.I have the records of the majority of the work that has been done to this car.
The front end was rebuilt a number of years ago, but the car has not been abused, thus these repairs all appear to be in outstanding condition. New parts according to the records: front rotors, rear rotors, caliper cores, lower ball joints, upper control arms, rear bushing, castor busing, lemforder lower bushings, brake MC, 2L upright hubs, wheels bearing kits, brake flex hoses, koni shocks, T arm thrust washers, rear axle/plates, parking brake cable, new parking brake shoe, rear axle seals, rear brake line parts, used spring pan, out tie rods, reset alignment to correct specs. All suspension parts at normal heights and rebuilt calipers. COST $4269.93
Complete Engine rebuilt 4/4/2007. All work done at Alfa Unlimited at Norfolk CT. One of the most renown Alfa shops in the Northeast. I was told that they did the work from Alfa when they had dealers in New England. Here's what the invoice says: new throttle bellcrank, pistons/liners, rings, rod bushing, rob bolt set, lightening of the flywheel, valve job, new guides, new valve seals, new valve springs, new valve, trans seal, tans bushings, shift rail hardware, 2L shift lever, 2 L selector mechanism, carb rebuild, new water pump, rebuilt alternator, rebuilt starter, lower OEM alfa chain, upper OEM Alfa chain, new carb mounts, surface hear, main/rod/TW bearings, gasket set speedy sleeve, can followers, shims, carb strut bushing, alt belt, engine mounts, weld cam cover hold, new hardware, shifter boot, new fuel hose, clamps, drive shaft rubber. COST $7033.30
We picked up this classic this summer and had the following done to refresh it. Repair vacuum port for brake boost, as it was leaking air. The manifold gaskets were old and leaking fuel, thus manifolds were removed and new gaskets were installed. Carb was found to be leaking some fuel, thus the carbs tops were removed and adjusted. Idling was adjusted. The electrical was gone over, all headlights are working, all turn signals are works, park lights and brake lights are all working Brand new interstate battery installed with new leads and connections ( $125.00). Wiper blades are working. All work done recently was over $1000.
Compression test was done: 180, 175, 180, and 185All gauges seem to bee working. All fuses replaced. There are a few things that will need some minor attention, no driver's seat belt, the cable to release the hood needs to be replace, the air-box is not currently attached, air cleaner may be missing a hose. Will include all extra parts including the airbox. A few little paint chips on the hood (see in pictures).
Please be aware that this car is almost 50 years old, it is not showroom quality, but is certainly beautiful and in great shape. Very straight body. LBJ was still the president then. Ted Williams was still alive ( a Boston Red Sox legend). The engine bay was repainted when the engine was taken out, it is a slightly different red. There appears to be no rust on the car, and seems very intact. The floor pans were replaced, but was not done with the pans from an Alfa. The trunk seems completely solid, there is a spare wheel in the trunk, but no jack.
We did the best to disclose all the known information regarding this 67 Alfa. I am a Clinical Social Worker by professional, not a mechanic. That being said, I do truly love and appreciate these classic cars, but I strongly suggest that you or your mechanic come by to check out the car in person, prior to any bidding. Placing a bid on eBay, it is a legal contract, and your are committed to purchasing the car if you end up being the highest bidder. If you are not interested in purchasing the car, PLEASE do not bid.
