For the most part the car has been well looked after over its 55 years and is an excellent candidate for restoration.I have driven this car and can attest to its supple ride and wonderful road manners at the time.. It was lively, had remarkable presence and loads of character. It made the MGB's and Triumph Spitfires I was driving at the time, feel like clunkers.
The car was taken off the road in 1986 for some brake work and was running well at the time. The motor was rebuilt bottom to top in 1980 and a later Alfa 5 speed transmission was installed as a preference. The original 4 speed comes with the car. It has a Weber carb. The original Solex is included. In 1986 my brother started a new business and put the car on jack stands in his garage. His business and later on, poor health, kept him from attending to the car and it languished in his garage until I recently took ownership. The cars is registered in my name with a clear title.
I considered restoring the car but have neither the time, space or the inclination to do the work required. The car is complete with the exception of the tail pipe and comes with NOS hubcaps bought in Italy in 1982, extra parts, receipts and a comprehensive library of manuals and literature. The engine will not turn over at the crank pulley bolt. I decided not to force the issue and leave it to the new owner. The car has some very manageable rust issues and will need the front floors, sills and cross members replaced. The repair pieces are available from Wolf Steel in Canada and are better quality than original. The center, rear floors and trunk are solid. The rocker panels have been replaced. The body is straight and solid. It was repainted in 1979. There are, however, areas of bubbling in the paint. I hooked up a battery and all lights, turn signals, horn, wipers and heater motor worked. The doors open and close well and the windows roll up and down.I believe the gas tank was replaced at some point as it is clean and shiny inside.
Serious buyers please email any questions you may have. The car is located close to the USA border and Customs and close to the Seaport of Vancouver, British Columbia for straightforward international shipping. All transport and shipping costs are the responsibility of the buyer. I will gladly assist were possible.
