I am selling my 1974 Alfa Romeo Spider that I recently purchased (June 2015) from a Alfisti in California. My plan was to use this vehicle as a daily driver and to take adventurous trips during the Summer and Fall. Unfortunately I landed a job outside of the United States for the next year and I would like to give another Alfa Owner the opportunity to enjoy this vehicle as I currently do not have the time to do so.
The car was originally purchased in San Francisco and has spent its entire life in the Bay Area until I purchased the vehicle in June 2015. Since my purchase, the vehicle has only been driven 3 hours and has been sitting in dry storage since June. The vehicle is a stand-out example of the best year Series 2 Spiders and is a fast and beautiful car that has been responsibly cared for and respectfully driven by the previous enthusiast owner.
If interested, I can supply the original California blue plates.
Recent refurbishments done by the previous owner include:
1. Carefully applied dual stage urethane paint by Rhodwork, San Rafael. CA
2. Recent (500 miles) cylinder head rebuild by Jon Norman Racing in Berkeley, including new 11. mm lift camshafts, cam followers, Isky valve springs, large valves, port matching and polishing.
3. Tuned and rebuilt Weber 40 DCOE carburators.
4. Recent (500 miles) clutch disk and pressure plate. New clutch slave cylinder, master cylinder.
5. Electronic ignition. Hot Bosch coil.
6. Recent water pump. Correct fuel pump.
7. Rebuilt suspension, including Centerline performance springs (front and rear), tie rod ends, ball joints and adjustable control arms. Koni shocks.
8. Exhaust: Stebro stainless steel.
9: Wheels: Alfaholics GTA Veleoce with Bridgestone Potenza tires.
10. Maintenance and tuning by Oliveria Engineering, Berekeley, CA.
Some minor cosmetic issues: paint chip on hood near nose from shipping compnay, interior passenger door pull handle loose and the outside passenger door handle sometimes does not work. All in all car is in great shape for its age.
I have to attest that this Spider does in fact fly as my short driving experience had the vehicle way over the speed limit. :) This is a great and fun car to drive for somebody looking to get into an Alfa with limited superficial work to be done. Dashboard is in great shape, newer cloth convertible top o the car. The car really sounds great when driver and idling making people take notice!
Please be aware that this car is almost 41 years old, it is not showroom or concourse quality, but is certainly beautiful and in great shape with a very straight body. In 1974 - Nixon/Ford were presidents then. Oakland A's won the World Series, Miami Dolphins won the Super Bowl, West Germany won the World Cup. There appears to be no rust on the car and seems very intact. The trunk seems completely solid, there is a spare wheel in the trunk, but no jack.
I did the best to disclose all the known information regarding this '74 Alfa from information received from the previous owner and my limited drive time in the vehicle . I am a project manager, not a mechanic. That being said, I do truly love and appreciate Alfa Romeos and the Spider is being sold As is but I strongly suggest that you or your mechanic come by to check out the car in person, prior to any bidding.
