Rare and last year for one of only about 855 to 890 AMX's for 1980, numbers depend where you search. 1980 AMC Spirit AMX Liftback. Only engine option for 1980 was a 258ci 4.2L I6cyl. Automatic transmission. 'Rally-Tuned' suspension. Sunroof. Magnum 500 wheels. Fender flares, Front air dam, Rear spoiler. Decal strip package.
Body needs restoration but has zero rust, only surface stuff, very clean great for restoration. Does have minor dings and scratches. I have removed the right fender flare because it was a little loose and didn't want it to get damaged. Front grill headlight bezel is damaged, but have replacement piece. Rear hatch latch was removed by previous owner, but there are some pieces included I'm not sure if it's all there. (see pictures).
Paint is faded as well as decals. (see pictures).
Engine runs good, Mileage in dash shows 37, 006 miles, but probably exempt or has rolled over don't know. 258ci 4.2L I6cyl. No leaks, No smoking, No abnormal knocks or rattles. New water pump and fuel pump. Does not overheat. Carb runs a little rich, but starts up every time. Included will be a engine cross member for a V8 engine from a 1979 AMX.
Transmission shifts good through all gears including reverse. Could use a filter and fluid change as I have not done these services.
Brakes stop okay but I have not done any service on them, so buyer should go through them before any high speed driving.
Tires are mismatched, they do hold air okay.
Interior needs restoration. Dash is cracked, seats are worn, carpet worn, headliner needs repair. Included will be a Black dash and black front seats from another AMX, was told by previous owner that came from another AMX 79' I'm not sure about the seats but the dash looks the same style.
