This AMX is an exceptional car. A garage find with 93, 918 original miles on
the clock it has only been driven slightly more than 2, 000 miles per year. A California Black Plate car it is in
exceptionally good original condition, showing only a little rust underneath
the back window where they all do that. This is a lifelong California car. The original
owner purchased this car and when he could no longer drive gave it to his
daughter. We acquired the car from her.
This AMX comes with the 290 4-barrel V8 original engine
mated to the original Shift Command three-speed automatic transmission that
moves through the gears effortlessly. After dusting the AMX off and checking all of the fluids, we filled it
with gas and drove it 80 miles on the highway to get it home. Lights and turn signals work. The brakes are great. The car runs straight and true and has been
well maintained. After getting the AMX home, we rebuilt the carburator, rebuilt the transmission, replaced the radiator, replaced all of the fluids and filters, charged the AC, changed out the brake lines, installed a new kick-down switch, cleaned it up, replaced the fuel pump, and redid the driver's seat. In other words, all of the hard stuff.
The tires have great tread. This AMX is equipped with air conditioning that blows cold. All glass is original. The AMX does have a power antenna that goes
up and down, it is connected to the original AM radio. This is a very original car. All chrome pieces are intact and on the car
and are in driver quality condition. The paint could use some freshening, but is in presentable survivor condition.
This AMX is in its original Matador Red.
The hub caps are original. This AMX also has power steering. As you can see in the pictures it also has its numbered console
plate. The passenger’s seat looks to
have been very rarely used. The driver’s
seat, has been reupholstered in the original seat
material. The dash has one slight crack
above the glove box. From what the owner
told us and what we can see, this AMX has always been garaged. The ashtray indicates that this car was never
smoked in.
This AMX was one of the last ones made in 1968 based on its
plate number. It is one of:
967 with air conditioning
3, 676 with black interior
1, 009 with the 290 engine
3, 673 with Shift Command automatic transmission
2, 249 with standard wheel covers
4, 619 with power steering
4, 445 with power disc brakes
1, 418 with electric wipers
1, 411 with wheel covers
484 with the 290 and automatic transmission
This car is in its original Matador Red and given its age
the paint shows pretty well. You can see
from the underside pictures that this AMX has no rust issues and is very dry
underneath.
If you have any questions, please feel free
to call Tom 619-807-8770. Life is too short to drive boring cars. This AMX is for sale locally and we reserve the right to end the auction early for any reason.
