1972 AMC Javelin AMX

AMC Javelin AMX (1972)
for sale

Price: US $7,500.00

Description:

NO RESRVE AUCTION
Up for sale is my 1972 Javelin AMX. This will be the only time I list the car in this condition. If I don't get what I am looking for, the restoration will continue to completion. This is true AMX and not a clone. In my opinion, the most desirable color combination for the 71-74 AMX Javelins. It was born a triple black car meaning black exterior, black vinyl top, and black interior. It is a high option Go Pack car that included AC, PS, 727 auto, AM/FM, tilt wheel and electric rear window defroster.
NOTE:
Grill tub and rally wheels not included at this price! Will come with a set of 15 x 7 Torque Thrust D wheels and virtually brand new BFG tires. Or if you prefer a set of AMC Magnums with new tires.
I purchased the car here locally about 2 years ago and it was originally from California where it spent most of it's life. It is a very solid car with just a few issues to address before paint. The biggest being in the trunk area where it appears to be a victim of the stupid 70's notion that a muscle car must have air shocks! The other areas needing attention are the trunk floor (3 very minor spots less than a square inch) and passenger side trunk drip/drain channel. All are pictured. I am including more than enough original rust free sheet metal from donor cars for repair.
As you can see, I have stripped the car basically down to the unibody for restoration. Most of you understand this process. you take the car apart to start the restoration! Believe it or not there was one person from the first run that was AGASHT that I had RUINED the car by disassembling it. While from a distance the car looked presentable (see before picture), it was tired and deserves a quality restoration. Not just new paint. You can see from the pictures how solid the car is other than the areas previously mentioned. From front to back-the troughs, rockers, floor pans, fenders, doors, frame rails, wheel houses, and most of the quarter panels are ROCK solid. My plan was to restore the car to a high end driver and not a total trailer queen so I decided to strip it to the level you see in order to address any sheet metal repair then work from the inside out.
So far the interior was removed and has been completely done over with new Legendary interior. Suspension was removed and cleaned and new ball joints, springs, control arm bushings and tie rods installed. I had several rally pack clusters and made the best one out of the parts that I had. It has a NOS tach and a working clock!. I restored the heater/evaporator boxes and installed new heater core and evaporator. I have all parts for the interior-nothing is missing and in fact have many spares that will go with the car.
The car ran and drove when I got it but my plan was to completely refurbish everything so removed the engine and transmission so that they could be rebuilt. I disassembled the engine and took the parts to my engine builder for a complete rebuild. He hasn't touched it yet so it is sitting in his machine shop and will be included with the car in that condition. As it sits, it is .030 over 401 block as far as I can tell was all stock. Nothing has been done to it yet so you will receive it that way. It had a torker intake, stock exhaust manifolds and an aftermarket carburetor. I have the stock distributor. I also have the factory ram air assembly to go with it as well.
I am pretty sure the car is missing nothing other than the grill tub. I have a decent grill screen that will go with it. I took everything apart and bagged and tagged parts/trim, fasteners and put most everything in totes. I have purchased thousands of dollars worth of parts for the restoration which will be included with the sale. I have included pictures of what it looked like when I picked it up (car on the trailer) and a few of what it should look like when finished.
There are way too many things that I am sure I have forgotten to cover so if you are not sure, ask questions. I am not desperate to sell the car so please make serious offers. I also have a very nice loaded Sienna orange 74 P code Javelin that needs nothing for a daily driver and I can't keep both. If this one doesn't bring what I am looking for, I will list the Javelin.
